GA Power will really take the EST to the next level by putting more storefront retail, jobs, and residences in the thick of it. Im really looking forward to what they project will provide and hope it will not be chains.

$34 million hotel planned by Centennial Olympic Park

https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news...lympic.html?iana=hpmvp_atl_news_headline

Quote:
A $34 million hotel is planned by Centennial Olympic Park, rising 10 stories with a large rooftop restaurant overlooking downtown.

A partnership of Barrett Hospitality LLC, P3 Global Hospitality Services Group LLC and developer Dion Meltzer is proposing the 138-room hotel.

It would come to a nearly one-acre site at the intersection of Centennial Olympic Park Drive and Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard. The hotel would be caddy-corner to the Center for Civil and Human Rights and next to a new apartment project that’s under construction from Kaplan Residential.

The project will be a midscale, extended-stay hotel, said David Barrett of Barrett Hospitality. The development team is about 60 days from securing a hotel brand, he said.

The architect is Atlanta-based TSW Design. The general contractor is Marietta-based Freese Johnson LLC.

It's better than the renderings from most of the other mid-range hotel projects. Certainly not great but not bad and I'll take it to activate that street corner.

There will still be a lot of available land on that lot after this gets built. Fingers crossed it'll be used for another development, and not a parking lot.

I suspect the bad news is that they're not building a parking deck (at least it's not mentioned in the article) and the parking for the hotel will just be a surface lot on the north side of the parcel.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. This is at the NE corner of Centennial Park Drive and Ivan Allen. Immediately to the North is the (under construction) Kaplan Residential project. If there is any land to the East it is constrained by Spring Street coming in from the NE. I think this is it for that block.

Pullman Yard owner prepping to break ground for Phase 1

https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news...nd-for.html?iana=hpmvp_atl_news_headline

Quote:
The team behind the $100 million Pratt-Pullman Yard redevelopment is planning to begin site work on the project within the next few months.

Atomic Entertainment LLC co-founder Adam Rosenfelt confirmed the timetable Tuesday at a Kirkwood Business Owners Association meeting. Initial work will include infrastructure and remediation.

Rosenfelt told Atlanta Business Chronicle in September that Atomic was ramping up for construction, and in November said he expected construction would start in the “first quarter."

At the Tuesday meeting, Rosenfelt said, “By May you should see we'll be digging out stuff and hauling it away and replacing it with infrastructure."

I hope you're right, but check out the lot size from the webcam, tons of unused space before hitting Sprint: https://app.oxblue.com/open/cbgbc

I guess the good news is no matter what it'll look pretty good coming up/down Centennial.

Very nice little project in Chosewood Park. Wish we could get more of this smallscale development that's affordable for local businesses and everyday people.

At first glance I thought that was the Flatiron Pub building in EAV...

Emory Midtown Aims to Use Parking Consolidation To Create Urbanism On & Off Campus

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/emory-midtown-aims-use-parking-consolidation-create-city-of-atlanta/

Quote:
Emory University Hospital Midtown doesn’t just want to be a medical campus, it wants to be an active urban hub. It's trying to transform its SoNo campus, the area just south of North Ave., by easing area traffic congestion, promoting public transit use and increasing retail activity.

Emory is planning to achieve these goals by building a massive parking deck.

Quote:
"People do not think of a parking deck as a catalyst for promoting urbanism, but through active collaboration with Commissioner [Tim] Keane and his staff, the proposed Emory University Hospital Midtown (EUHM) parking deck does just that," the hospital said in a statement.

The City of Atlanta Department of City Planning, through it’s Atlanta City Studio for design, worked with the hospital to create a master plan that promoted urbanism and beautiful building design. It issued a special use permit for Emory’s plans in January 2018.

"A hospital is a unique use and one that is notoriously difficult to weave into the fabric of an urban place. We are indebted to Emory for working with us to achieve something substantially better," said Commissioner Tim Keane.

The deck will provide 3,000 parking spaces and consolidate five different lots within blocks of the hospital. The formerly leased lots will be made available for future active development. Emory also plans to subsidize MARTA passes at 100 percent for all its employees. It’s part of its plans to promote alternative ways of travel in anticipation of more density. The deck will have rideshare zones, commuter bicycle facilities and increased electric charging stations.

The master plan requires all of the deck’s frontage streets to be “active use,” making them more pedestrian friendly. That’s quite a contrast from today, where one of the most popular uses of Peachtree Street, is to drop off patients and park.

Right! One could almost be excited about a parking deck when it looks like this. And considering its Emory it's a win-win for the neighborhood.

Really?!?! It looks like a parking deck. What’s so much better? They added some store space along Peachtree that’s all. Honestly, Peachtree street level should be required to be active use no matter the building. I’m not complaining but this love affair with everything Keane’s name is tied to is silly. Honestly the design looks like something from the 1960’s to me. It looks dated and not in a good way. It will depend on the materials used as with any building.
