RTG has 60 days after the last deadline to give a new RSA/Handover date, they haven't done that yet (end of may is the deadline for the new date). But that date isn't the day it'll open to the public, its the day the city will get it from the builders, and then they will do their own final tests on the line (recent comments saying it would take about a month after the handover for all of that to be done).

I have heard 'end of Q2 2019' thrown around by various media outlets, which would be the day before Canada Day.

Wouldn't that be quite the test.

I have also heard that there will be a period where they run all of the existing bus routes and the trains. That would be perfect for Canada Day. They might have the scheduled rapid route buses run through downtown but add extras that stop at the nearest station. It would reduce the pressure on Albert and Slater Streets while allowing the extras to turn around faster.

I suspect we'll get a more precise date within a couple of weeks. End of Q2 is the default answer for "within Q2".

Given that the city needs 3-4 weeks after handover before putting the line in service, the only way it will be open on Canada Day is if it is turned over by the end of May.

My guess is turnover at the end of April and service start end of May. We'll see.

I saw someone mention that there needs to be a minimum of 30 days between the date that RSA is announced and the RSA date itself, although I have no idea if this is actually true.

If it is, then the launch date will have to be far later than any of us we'd hope (and worse as each day goes by). They still haven't even started the 12 day test yet. Eek.

It's hard to believe that this would be enforced at this point even if it is in the contract.

^ Yeah. If RTG actually came out and said they'd be ready for a handover in 15 days, I doubt the city would say no and force them to wait 15 more days.

I was under the impression RTG would give a new RSA after the 12 days of consecutive testing were complete, thus ensuring they've met the requirements, otherwise they're just rolling the dice again. Manconi seemed to believe (a couple FEDCO meetings ago) they can get the trains running within weeks of the RSA, not the full month as was insinuated before the first two missed deadlines.

We will know handover is imminent as soon as that test begins. Given how heavily they've been doing testing lately I expect no surprise, but like J.OT13 I think they won't announce until that test is almost over.

How could they possibly miss again? They have the trains and the stations now. However at the moment there is no June 30th handover. There's no date at all.

The problem I fear is Rideau Station. This station has been the number 1 reason for delays on the project ever since the sinkhole. Let's not forget that altough all the other station are operational, Rideau still has a lot of electrical work left, tiling, and comminsioning to complete. That may take another month and a half ... maybe even more

Actually it turned out to be trains. We all thought RTG was just being lazy on stations, but it turns out they knew they weren't close to having all the trains ready so they obviously didn't pull out all the stops when the stations where behind.

It's only 11 days into Q2, a lot can happen in 2 and a half months, well all see.

I took a walk around Lees and Hurdman and noticed a quite a few cosmetic deficiencies. For example, the elevator cage by the MUP at Lees is bashed and cracked, and there's a seriously damaged metal panel above the escalator at Hurdman. Little things but I'm sure they add up.

I'm also disappointed in how the "lanterns" are being installed downtown at Lyon and Parliament. The workers don't seem to be paying enough attention to lining up the frosted glass panels and they're visibly uneven at the top and bottom especially at the corners, sometimes by as much as half an inch. That mounting system is supposed to have a finessing tolerance that they are not bothering with. Sounds picky but if I was buying a new house and inspecting it before signing off on acceptance, I wouldn't stand for sloppy workmanship like that especially with elements that are supposed to be aesthetic.

It seems they slacked off on building the trains and stations once it was obvious they would not complete Rideau and Parliament on time and then slacked off again on everything once it became clear the trains wouldn't be ready. If they continued to work at full speed on all aspects the entire time, then the line might be open by now. I understand they are trying to "distribute" the work in order to save resources, but cost of labour and material only goes up.

Very disappointing. Lot of people just don't show the same pride in their work as they use to.

Such a cheery page today!

I have some good news! Last night at about 9:30pm I was passing by Riverside/417 and saw a double train go by. Not only that, but it was hauling ass! Seems like we've increased the speeds on the line finally!

This last week, every day coming home from work on Nicholas Street at the uOttawa Station there have been trains running every 5 minutes - I usually see 3-4 training if I get stuck in traffic.

They've also been missing some of the narrow frosted panels for the sides.
