Ew, that's even worse than the original renders...

I seriously hope that giant podium in the second picture is at least gonna be landscaped so that the apartment built on top has some area to use - if all that roofspace is going to be useless then I say it's the most useless waste of space ever.

And yeah I'm kinda underwhelmed by the 6 story apartment design along king too - oh well.

What a waste of a beautiful historical building this was.. just for a buncha low rise apartments.

100% agree... 6 storeys on King in this spot is a massively wasted opportunity!

Wouldnt it have been better if they swapped locations of the 15 and 6 story towers so the taller one fronts a main street?

I mean I guess I'd be fine with it if the 6-storey builds covered most of the lot from street to street and had design elements like this projects from LA.

But let's be real. This is Hamilton. Design doesn't matter. As long as something is short and stubby, everyone's happy. Slap up a 6-storey stucco box and apparently the neighbourhood groups all get to celebrate a 'win'.

Someday in an alternate universe, we'll build like this:

Spec article says otherwise "Soon a tower crane will arrive on site from a yard in Binbrook. Turns out Vranich recently bought two of these cranes, $750,000 US each, in New York state.

The other crane, now stretched out on Vranich land at King and Queen, will rise soon for a 30-storey student residence and a 10- to 12-storey Hampton Inn at that corner."

So I was driving by the site today and there a big hole there. They have started excavating from the corner of Queen and Main and heading west. It is about half excavated. If it is like other Vrancor project and does not have much underground parking, then it is at footing level.

In the past Vrancor starts projects without any fan fair.

Were the crane sections still on site, or did they move them to the Main Street project?

I noticed that when I drove by earlier today as well. Looks like they will be getting the site services up and running and this site and continue work on their Main/Walnut site.

I don't expect that he bought 2 cranes so one off them can sit on the ground for years.
