Not only is it a very stale design, that sketch mostly illustrates he has very little understanding of structural engineering - all four of the "towers" he drew have their centre of gravity entirely over what would be the playing surface, floor or rink of the facility underneath. That would be a very grandiose (Billion$) build if it was to someone support the load of those towers without a forest of columns going through the seating areas. How can someone that has devoted that many decades to this vision not have thought through this already? It could be built but who on earth would ever agree to pay for it?

Curious to hear more opinions about a stadium being located anywhere downtown. I'm not overly familiar with Saskatoon, and I can see the reasoning for not wanting tons of space along the riverfront taken up by a stadium, but I think a stadium is necessary downtown. The few times I have tried to attend events at the current rink were an absolute mess.

The consultants report on a combined arena/convention centre has not been fully released as to suggestions for a location...just that it SHOULD be downtown.

The most discussed options seem to be the North City Yards (north of 25th behind Police Station and West of 1st Avenue) and the parking lot across from the current TCU Place between the Holiday Inn Hotel and Hilton Garden Inn. There has also been some suggesting the Toys'r'us site.

This is par for the course. Haha. Have you worked with an architect before? They draw, then the engineers remind them how to make it real.

That includes civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers reminding: 1. The building needs to be anchored to the ground, 2. The building needs a “skeleton”, 3. The ceiling space should be deep enough for plumbing thet slopes!, and 4. The the building needs a room to house mechanical and electrical equipment.

And this happens every single building.

They are the dreamers... but that’s ok, it’s gotta start with a dream of some sort. But I agree, hopefully it starts with someone else’s dream in this case!

Anyone know if River Quarry found a tenant? From what I hear we haven’t incentivized a single suburban tenant to come downtown with all of this redevelopment... I think it’s time for a tax incentive to move downtown.

On a side note BASF was looking to move from Mississauga to Saskatoon and the government never offered a good enough incentive or had anyone from Saskatoon working on their interest in moving here vs Calgary. Crap....how does Saskatoon with College of Agriculture and Synchotron and all things agriculture not come out on top of consideration for a move by BASF. I have no idea what the back story on this may be, but I truly hope we were aggressive in trying to lure them to Saskatoon.

We also have a very large existing BASF office here in the north end larger than Calgary’s. This is the exact same as when we lost Roquette’s new pulse processor to Manitoba when MB doESNT even grow peas... not to get political but... yea we’re losing out on everything lately.
