I had seen photos taken from this vantage point before but when I was there in person this past weekend, this scene felt much more breathtaking than expected.
tm30's post touched on two of the things that I was pondering while admiring this stunning view:

Many people automatically dislike buildings that are much bigger and/or much taller than all other surrounding buildings. For a while Sears probably did "ruin" the skyline to some degree, but over time many more skyscrapers were added to complement it, thereby distributing the architectural peaks more evenly. Now Sears no longer looks out of place and we are thankful that it got built. It still dominates, but in a most pleasing way.

Back in the 1960s and 1970s quite a few dark buildings were built in Chicago within a short period, so for diversity's sake I'm glad that most subsequent skyscrapers avoided dark colors. But like you, I was thinking that it's now a good time to start building some dark skyscrapers again. Having one a couple blocks north of NEMA would be nice IMO. At Vista's location, blue/green was a great choice. I surely hope Jeanne Gang will design many more skyscrapers for Chicago, preferably supertalls!
