Based on the rendering posted by eltodesukane, perhaps only the front of the building is getting the frosted/whiter balcony glass and the Preston Street facing balconies are getting the transparent glass

From my drive-by yesterday I can confirm this is correct. They have installed several more floors of balcony railings on the side of the icon facing Dow's Lake and it's clear that side is getting lightly glazed glass compared to the transparent glass on the north or west balconies.

I was hoping the balcony glass would offset all the spandrel and white window/door frames... it's an improved look over the west side, but I'm not sure how good the final product will look.

I think it would have looked better if the glass overlapped with the concrete below, similar to the One Bloor East example posted earlier. Maybe it will look better once the concrete is (hopefully!) painted.

The concrete upstand is likely because that balcony would be the roof to the unit below because of the deep inset glazing. The upstand would be needed to contain the additional thickness of the insulation, roof slopes and roof membrane and pavers that such a change in the location of the glass would trigger. Where the glazing moved back out again, the slab will be insulated and clad on the underside to the edge of the glazing above, so an upstand isn't needed.

If I am not mistaken I believe hokiefans has images of these three inset units in their gallery. You would need to dig back to their earlier posts to find it though.

The unit layouts change from 'New Gehry' to 'New Bogart' for floors 8, 9 and 10. The Bogarts are sold already, so I can't see floor plans on the website.

So I guess you could say, Claridge, **Bogarted**, the extra 250 square feet?

You can see the major difference in plan that I posted, though the square columns in the bogart were built circular.

Perhaps the reason was architectural? i.e. the first few floors (within eye-shot) have an exposed exterior column, whereas the rest of the elevation does not?

I observed the Icon from the vicinity of the Aviation Parkway and Ogilvie today, and oh my god...it's so tall now, that it looks like it literally stands alone...
