Apparnetly as someone mentioned in the other thread, the Fairmont has the ability to do all sorts of colors like this but the people who operate the hotel don't know how to do it!

It was me

And what's wrong with having rainbow colors year round??? Doesn't mean it's a gay building if it has rainbow colors..

I'm just being goofy lol..

I mean if Stonelake's Domain Tower can have a multi-colored LED hockey stick light ribbon (it was a moving candy cane & green/red chasers in December!)... surely a world class tower in a permanently visible block downtown can come up with *something*

Another reason I've assumed few residential buildings are lit in a grand way is that they want to be good neighbors. If they play it safe and don't crazy with bright and distracting lighting, then their neighbors likely won't either. Residential buildings also don't have to advertise in the same way that office buildings do. Hotels are also pretty dark.

Office buildings though have no reason to worry about how they light their buildings since they don't have tenants who would likely complain about bright lights in a neighboring building.

I think the big reason our skyline is so dark is that most of what's been built in the last 20 years has been residential rather than office space. Look at the office towers we do have and compare them to the residential ones. Almost every one of them is much brighter than any of the residential towers. Block 185, Block 71 and The Republic will likely be lit in pretty significant ways compared to the residential buildings that have relied more on delicate accent lighting or none at all.
This is why the lighting along the south side of the 360 tower is so clever. It's actually interior hallway lights at the windows that let in sunlight during the day at the end of the hallway on each floor. They change the colors by just placing a colored gel over the last interior light at the end of the hallway next to the window. No extra cost, it's just keeping the lights on that would be on anyway.

I would love to know the name of this development so we don't have to keep calling it "Block 185".

Or we can just come up with our own name. Shard is already taken and to me it doesn't look like a sail so much as a wing. So I propose we call it The Wing Building.

Frost tower is an owl and now we have a wing.

Too bad it isn't Bing who's occupying the building or we could call it the Bing Wing.

In commercial real estate circles it's being unofficially called Google Tower II, since 500 West 2nd is called Google Tower. Also, Block 71 is being called Indeed Tower, and I heard that is probably going to be its official name. They were holding off on naming Block 71 because they thought Facebook was going to take the other half of the building but now that Facebook is going elsewhere and they are leasing up smaller pieces of Block 71, Indeed can claim naming rights. Nothing is official yet, but I'm sure the Biz Journal will claim it as an 'exclusive' once it goes official.

The ABJ will have an "exclusive" link to an AAS article siting an anonymous source who heard it on SSP.

We have three higher quality renderings from STG.

This is also the first recognition of Pelli Clarke Pelli's involvement (unless I missed something earlier). It had always been rumored or speculated on, but I never saw any formal acknowledgement from either firm until today.

Looks really cool. So glad to get the real rendering.

Is this thing still 589' tall? Doesn't seem to be quite that tall in the STG renderings. It actually looks a bit shorter than 360 Condos (including spire).

The 3D modeling on this thing must have been an absolute nightmare to pull off properly. The angles and curves are wild.

Well done!

Is there a good close up modeling of the view from the southeast?

At first, I thought those triangles were flat and facing East. But I now see they're angled, like the corner was sliced off. Very cool little detail.
