Glad to see Ottawa get some taller buildings, most underwhelming skyline in the country with the height restrictions...

no question, Ottawa has a better skyline than KW... but in fairness, it's also got 700,000 plus more citizens.. so given it's size KW is pretty decent and is getting some more height. Ottawa certainly needs more height.. and in the downtown core.

First: didn't know what I was looking at for a moment,
Second: cool change, good for Ottawa,
Third: would it really be so bad to have one city in the country without tall buildings? Here, in Vancouver, central Richmond is a unique experience; and I have had my doubts about White Rock becoming yet another high-rise skyline - though I always like seeing it's presence just north of the border when driving home on I5.

In that picture, the new tallest (Claridge Icon?) looks like it's right downtown. It's much further out, isn't it?

I would say it's on the southwest edge of what I consider downtown, but it depends on your definition of where downtown Ottawa begins. The area it's being built in has several towers under construction, approved, and proposed which will make the transition to our main skyline more seamless.

For reference, here is a photo showing how spread out 'downtown' is.

I lived in Ottawa on two occasions. I wouldn't call the vast majority of what's in that picture to be considered by anybody to be downtown Ottawa. Nobody ever confuses Tunney's Pasture or Lees Avenue with downtown.

Cool picture, though. Really captures the beauty of the region rather than just the city.

The Claridge Icon is at Preston and Carling. Definitely inner city Ottawa but not really downtown.

KW is small and not really expected to have a large skyline, Ottawa is the same size as Calgary and Edmonton so you would expect it to have a similar skyline. I'm sure it's close to the amount of office3 space in Edmonton, the buildings are just shorter and Ottawa is flatter so it's harder to see.

Well, since this is a skyline thread, on a skyscraper site... yes.

Never going to happen - it's too close to Parliament. I'm hoping for a new skyline with height to develop west of downtown in the Lebreton Flats-Preston area over the coming years. There are some great projects in the pipeline for that area.

Unfortunately a new arena is no longer part of it.

The whole RVL failure was a huge disappointment, but it's not like it completely precludes the possibility of arena at Lebreton in the future. I'll remain hopeful.

I think Melnyk precludes the possibility, but I will also remain hopeful!
