"KidThink" at 200 Portage (Scotiabank) does seem to be dead though: "Up to 3 contiguous full floors available"
This listing updated a week ago seems to confirm it: "This flagship building offers incredible **signage opportunities** for key tenants on both the exterior of the building, as well as building lobbies and elevators."
I always think that prime location is better for something else. KidThink idea is fantastic, but in the long run I think the space should belong to something different.
Are we sure that the KidThink project is dead, at least as far as 200 Portage is concerned? After all, the leasing page mentions 3 floors being available, but that still leaves a fair bit of room for the KidThink project, if it's still going forward.
But as I've said before, that always seemed like a weird location for something like that.
Wasn't there an agreement between the city and either the Richardson building owner or the RBC building owner that no building could be built taller, within Winnipeg? Did that agreement expire and that's why this new tower is possible?

I have never heard of such an agreement. Why would the City ever enter into such an agreement?
the reduced height of the middle section may make it less noticeable from aerial photos but man, that's going to make a huge difference from the sidewalk.

I don'd know if the renderings appropriately accommodate the rise on the parking loop... because although I'd prefer 4 floors, that single floor looks quite large in person.
Good to see the concrete pump working away. I cant wait to see some structural steel and the form of the tower.
Tell me about it. I was expecting structural steel last fall and I check the live cam everyday hoping to see a beam. Hopefully within a couple weeks? Anyone have some inside info on this?
thank god the kidthink thing is dead. the last thing P&M should be anchored by is a vanity-project social service in class a space. great to have autism services downtown, but there's a million perfectly reasonable (and massively less expensive) spaces it could go into.
^ From a pragmatic standpoint, they could a) up the amount of space by going in a less pricy building (like, say, some Exchange District renovated warehouse), or b) reduce the amount of money they need by taking up the same amount of space for less money. That project always sounded off, right from day one.
Was the idea Of KidThink going there because the founders also own that building? Therefor it would be reasonable to assume they wouldn’t charge themselves rent.

i guess they realized what the CRA would think of such a plan

I doubt there ever was such an agreement, but the idea sounds small-time cronyistic and legally dubious enough to have actually been floated around in Winnipeg.
Based on the fact that GoodLife will be occupying the main (now only) floor of 330, I'd say it's fair to assume the skylight to Winnipeg Square won't be reopened, which is a bit of a shame – feels much different (worse) down there now. Oh well.
They've been tearing down some of the concrete wall/planters on the sidewalk/loading loop. The renders didn't really detail these areas much, curious to see how it turns out. I'd like to see the loop feel a little more "open" to the sidewalk. I'd also sacrifice the planters along Main for more sidewalk space, as that's a really busy bus stop and the sidewalk is tiny. Nowhere to hide from getting splashed by mud puddles lol.
I was thinking it is maintained. There is an area of the building that extends higher than the roof of the hollow cored area, in which Goodlife will be it seems. And this is right overtop of where the opening is to the square. They didn't install any beams or anything over the opening. Just framed it in with drywalll to cover it during construction. My thoughts anyways. We'll see.
I have to say, that is a pretty nice streetwall on the south side of Hargrave. We really need something on the Canada Post and Cargill lots (that's what I call them). Must be at least 10 storeys tall.
