CCG Redevelopment at 385 South Rio Grande Street

Documents were posted today for a new development coming to the Pioneer Park area on the south end of Rio Grande Street or the northwest corner of Rio Grande Street and 400 South.

It is going through Conditional Design Review now. From what I read, it's a two-phase project. The first phase will replace a surface parking lot and the second phase will replace the CCG building on the northern end of the parcel but preserve the building facade.

A little off topic, but does any one know what happened to Issac? He seems to have dropped off the radar.

He's quoted in the Salt Lake Tribune a lot...

In December I read on his site that he was moving to Charlotte and was looking for someone to take over BSL.

Jackie was handed a bad situation from the out-going Becker, who really was the one to halt all the momentum we saw coming out of his first term, and was just overwhelmed by it. She never could recover from the homeless shelter debate. Jackie did an okay job. I wouldn't rank her anywhere near the top but I think she did a much better job than Becker, who may be the worst mayor in recent Salt Lake history, and at least attempted to bridge the growing divide between police and the community that was only enlarged under the incompetency of Becker.

Right now, I'll go with Dabakis just to piss the rest of Utah off.

This is really cool! The building is planned at 90 feet, which is the max that zoning allows for that area.

Wow, it looks like they are actually keeping an old building and incorporating it into a new project, instead of tearing it down. That is fantastic

EDIT: After reading the post again I see they are just keeping the façade. That is in phase two, and honestly seems like something that will get cut later due to costs, but maybe not. Let's hope!

Now that the men's shelter is closing soon, I think you will see other developments announced like this. This area is really ready for investment. I have to give credit to Homewood Suites for building in that area when it was a disaster. I am sure they have regretted it at times. Hopefully, 10 years from now this will be a really great place once the two blocks East of the UTA hub is fully realized.

I agree. This is a sign that developers are more eager about to jump into this area. The state legislature appropriated $1.4 million dollars in the last session to demolish the road home building after it is closed. There's some talk of a Utah State museum or exhibit space being sited there, but no firm plans have yet come out.

CW Urban has a project going through conditional design review at 45 South 600 West, but no documents have been submitted as of yet. That could be another great development for the area.

I like it. Though, it looks like there is about 2 levels of above-grade parking between the ground level and residential levels. Not great. Also, which architecture firm is designing this?

I think he’s a great guy, but will make another terrible mayor. Everyone LOVED Rocky Anderson, but he was the worst mayor we ever had, even worse than Biskupski. Sometimes Salt Lakers don’t have any sense.

Harrison is a Bernie supporter, so he lacks common sense and I couldn’t support him for mayor. (And I’m a socialist.)
We used to be friends on Facebook for years, but I blocked him because he was posting the most obnoxious Bernie propaganda.

Accusing people who don't care for your polices, leadership or behavior of being motivated by an anti gay bias is a pretty serious charge and deserves evidence.
It’s certainly not anti-gay bias on my part as I am gay. I have worked with her on some things in the past and she was not a nice person. I knew this is how her mayorship would turn out. I warned everyone I could, but no one listened.

My preference for those who have announced would be in order from most desired to least.

Jim Dabakis- Most connected to Utah's power structure/people

David Garbett- I like his connection to more urban sustainable development

Stan Penfold- Overall I liked him on the council

David Ibarra- Has solid business experience, but I can't where he is
articulating a vision. He is just relying on his business experience as being enough.
Oh my god. Stan Penfold! He was my boss when I worked at the AIDS Foundation. He is one of the most corrupt, deceitful people I have ever met.

I’m leaning towards David Ibarra, mainly because I’m not excited about the other leading candidates. But I could also get behind Garbett.

I mean, it's not bad either. It's on the ground and mezzanine levels (also one underground level), of which only one side is visible from the exterior:

Designed by OZ Architecture.

What complete nonsense. Becker was the second-best mayor in the past few decades after Corradini.

I really like this project a lot and LOVE that they’re preserving that façade. I hope that doesn’t change.

Nah. Becker was a failure who utterly botched the homeless shelter situation that led to an insane amount of homeless downtown and the mess Jackie had to inherit early in her tenure. He was also awful in his handling of a growing corrupt police force that put Salt Lake in the national media for all the wrong reasons. The last two years of his second term might be the worst of any recent Salt Lake mayor. So bad, in fact, the dude was booted from office despite easily winning a second term four years prior.
