“The Montreal example shows a relatively recent freeway interchange built as a cloverleaf without separating the main lanes from the exit/entrance lanes with a slip road.”

Do you know whether the new 101/59 interchange in the NE corner of Winnipeg is like that too? There’s only one flyover and the other 3 are all loops.

Shows a great example of the extensively used "cats eyes" in the southwest. Love those things. I've always assumed we don't use them much here because of our climate. I drive a stretch of 401 that does use them for period through undulating terrain.

The roads of Texas are incredible. I spent a sunday morning driving through Houston a few months ago. I don't think Houston is the best way to build a city by any means, but god those roads are fun to drive on a sunday morning.

You might be right about the guardrails but the grass medians seem to do fine at stopping semis crossing over, and better they get stuck there than smashed into a barrier blocking the lanes.

Geez this thing has no safety features built into it. I've never really understood what people meant when they say the MTO builds to a high standard, but after watching that video, the difference is glaring.

I have a Roku player but don't use it anymore as we now have a new 'smart' tv with Netflix and Youtube and TedTalks built in. That is what I used the Roku for most of the time.

What is the actual name of the app, I'll see if it on my new Samsung.

Coogan has a new show which I've watched on BBC Iplayer on the PC.

I remember watching the motorway between M/CR and Liverpool being built as a kid (M62). You need to concentrate a lot driving on motorways and roads in general in the UK.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but Calgary's 101-kilometer ring road will finaaaaalllly be complete in a couple years! The project includes a new interchange at the TransCanada Highway, and a new 250ish meter bridge over the Bow River.

Contracts for Calgary west ring road finalized; entire project to be completed by 2022

Quote:
The NDP government is determined to begin construction on the 11-kilometre project linking the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 8 this spring, said Transportation Minister Brian Mason.

“It won’t be long before the ring road is part of Calgarians’ daily lives with the completion of a plan 50 years in the making,” said Mason, who also took a shot at the previous Conservative government and UCP Opposition that’s vowed to cut spending.

“We know Alberta has faced an enormous infrastructure deficit and we’ve done our best to correct that . . . We’re going to continue to build the infrastructure necessary to set the stage for the sustained growth of our economy.”

He said any suggestions the announcement was being made to shore up NDP fortunes in Calgary before an impending election are misleading.

“My preference is to announce it before an election but none of the projects are designed to serve election purposes,” said Mason.

“We’ve been working with the City of Calgary on this for years.”

EllisDon has been awarded a $463-million contract to build the project’s north phase between Highway 1 and Old Banff Coach Road, while the AECON Group and Flatiron Construction will work to twin the Stoney Trail bridge over the Bow River in a deal worth $89 million.

It should be noted that there's one contract that hasn't been awarded yet which will be the largest of the three. This last leg will cost more than $1 billion in total.

That was beautiful FrAnKs. Thank you.

I really appreciate how you annotate the drives without putting too much info in your videos. Alterations too... you let the route dictate the video.

The only issue I had with this one was I wanted it to keep going!

I am not from this area, but I'm sure yes. The Parc national de la Mauricie is very close and seems to be a popular tourist destination. The park is owned by the federal.

Thank you for the very kind words my friend! With experience, I learned from my mistakes. A couple of years ago, I used to add too much informations below during my videos aswell as too much road signs too. Now, I try to keep it as light as possible and I make sure it is not appearing at the wrong moment. Overall, I try to make it well balanced .

I've always wondered. At 3.6km, is the Champlain bridge, the second longest road bridge in Canada after the confederation bridge? I've never found a list of the longests canadian bridges on the internet yet.

Not technically a highway talking point but in the New Brunswick provincial budget today it was announced that NB will be removing the front licence plate requirement for cars. This will match NS and QC's requirements.

AB hasn't had front plates for ages. Smart move on NB's part to get rid of them.
