Correct, they decided to switch to office.

That's a good sign--there must be a swell of demand out there.

Although it's a true shame these Nimbys have forced West Loop developers to have somewhat of a reverse dick-measuring contest to prove their building is not the area's tallest. A far cry from the glory days of free-market skyscraper construction where tallest tip wins. Sons of bitches.

the proposal is fine but it really bothers me how quickly everyone forgets the handsome warehouse it will be demoing (which SHOULD have been included in the landmark district to begin with). the Issaccson building is no loss but this one certainly is.

it easily could be rehabbed into something very desirable, as was the original plan a couple years ago

I'm all for preservation but this does way more towards expanding downtown westward. Lots of nice rehabs in Fulton already.

Agreed! I love what we are getting in place of this, but that 4 story building should have been saved. It's beautiful. There are plenty of non-descript 1 story buildings or vacant lots nearby for the new, gorgeous SOM office building.

Chicago’s skyline could extend all the way south to McCormick Place, under a multibillion-dollar development plan unveiled Wednesday that would create a row of gleaming skyscrapers atop a massive new transit center.

The preliminary plan, led by Wisconsin-based developer Bob Dunn, envisions millions of square feet of high-rises constructed on a platform covering Metra tracks above the level of Lake Shore Drive. The site runs just west of Lake Shore Drive between the Field Museum and McCormick.

Landmark also wants to build a major transit center next to the stadium that would connect Metra Electric lines with a proposed extension of Metra’s BNSF line, which runs from Union Station to the western suburbs. Dunn aims to connect the station to the CTA’s network by adding a spur to the Orange Line and proposes creating new bus routes, called the CHI Line, that would run on dedicated lanes near the lakefront and feed into the transit center.

Dunn was certain about one aspect of the project: He said Landmark will not seek tax-increment financing from the city to help pay for it, even the parts that might be considered public investments, like a transit station.

Too bad the South Loop NIMBY's will be in a tizzy to stop it since it will destroy their views...

I know the zoning exists to some degree, any word on whether he will have to come back to city council to get his plan approved?
