When they say they will invest $60 million to the project, I wonder if that is an actual $60 million investment in the stadium or is it $60 million towards the surrounding developments? That is, assuming they receive approval to develop the lands immediately around the stadium.

My impression is that it might not all go to the stadium but I doubt they are just talking about financing for their own private plans. We will just have to wait and see to get the details.

Even if they kick in $20-30M for the stadium it dramatically changes the cost vs. benefit analysis for the city. The provincial government has said they might also contribute funding depending on the project. If the city were asked to spend $60-80M (maybe partly through TIF) to get a stadium, CFL team, and mixed-use area then it would be attractive.

$130m sounds a tad low, doesn't it? THF was somewhere around $150m and that was several years ago.

Ah, I see now the ownership group had originally estimated a cost of around $190m. We shall see...

Were not just taking about a new arena in Calgary were talking about a 1.5 billion dollar investment. I'm astonished by that. Nenshie must have fell and bumped his head or something how do you for from 1 side of the spectrum to another. "No public funds for an arena" to a 1.5 billion dollar project

In fairness, the arena is one of four projects to be funded by the $1.5 billion in question.

I have to admit, I haven't been paying close attention. What is the funding model for the new arena?

Still subject to negotiation.

Yeah, I'm sure the owners are desperate to move to a city where they don't have a hope of making nearly the same amount of money.

Where are you getting your information? The CSEC has been begging the city for money for years, and continues to. The city is only just finally warming up to the idea because it fits into the Entertainment District ARP now. The city is calling the shots, not the team. Where would it be at all economically feasible for them to move to?

lol, trolling much?

I would guess that the city wouldn't be making announcements like this with out some sort of negotiations with CSEC, the final funding arrangement is still subject to approval from all parties involved, but I would expect to hear an announcement some time this summer. Calgary desperately wants to redo East Victoria Park, and the arena along with the revamped BMO Centre are the key pieces of that.

Plot twist: the City of Calgary announces it is building a new arena and the Calgary Panthers will begin playing there in 2022.

I had to google "Toronto Reds" that you mentioned the other day

I hope it's not the inverted bowl. That means that all tickets will be more expensive. Also, who knows what that might do to the acoustics.

The tickets are all going to be super expensive anyway, CSEC has clearly demonstrated their #1 priority is making as much money as they can. You're probably right though. I wouldn't be worried about acoustics with the inverted bowl, they would likely be better as the sound spreads out less and would reduce echoing. Compared to a concert at the Dome, I think the acoustics are going to sound great regardless lol.

The other thing I wonder is how much space corporate boxes are going to take up. I fully expect a third of the seating to be corporate seats.
