also, i just realized that neither lightfoot nor preckwinkle were born and/or raised in chicago/chicagoland.

whoever wins will be the first non-born and/or raised chicagoan to be elected* mayor of chicago since Edward Fitzsimmons Dunne back in 1905.

the whole non-native angle shouldn't be a big deal, but in a city like chicago it is. and it's cool that either way we'll have outgrown one of our more obnoxious provincial leanings in an important way. rahm, with his wilmette childhood, was like a test run for this.

(*) eugene sawyer and frank corr were both born and raised elsewhere, but neither of them were ever elected mayor, they were appointed by city council to serve out others' mayoral terms.

Seems like a really small sample, and I don't know anything else about the quality of the poll besides that. But still!
That's not so far from my 60-40 projection. And 400 is statistically appropriate as long as the respondents were either truly random or the results appropriately standardized. For either of all 1.5 million registered voters or the 500,000 "likely voters," that yields 95% certainty with a 5% standard of error. If you wanted 3% margin for error you'd need about one thousand people, but admittedly if you wanted 99% certainly with a 1% margin for error you would need over 16,000 participants. But for this race, I think 95/5 is a good enough standard unless it gets really close.

So if Preckweasel loses does that mean she doesn't get to be Crook County Board Pres anymore?

Was reading an article about Daniel La Spata today and his ideas to make Logan Square more affordable.

It consists of.....allowing more housing....but wait, not too much housing.....and you have to make the housing big and affordable.....but wait, we can't have too much. And you need "inclusionary" development too, and single family homes, but not too expensive.....and access to transit, but that access should be for "everybody"......and....but the buildings are too tall even though I like them and....

While we're at it lets just follow the yellow brick road and meet the wizard and clap our heels together and hope to be back in Kansas!

That's what happens when you get populists voting in some 37 year old "community event planner" dude who's never had to run the numbers with a lender and justify an acquisition loan, and who's never had to put together a balance sheet for a business in his entire life, and probably never will. A bunch of gobbledy goo, and I'm 100% certain that his haphazard incompetence will do absolutely nothing to stop the rising cost of living throughout his ward.

Unfortunately not. She hasn't quit that job to run for mayor.

Poll shows Lightfoot trouncing Preckwinkle; CTU dismisses it as ‘trash’

By Fran Spielman

.... Chicago voters likely to participate in the April 2 runoff was taken Feb. 27 and 28. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.

It showed Lightfoot leading 58 percent to 30 percent, with 12 percent undecided. Lightfoot topped virtually all racial and demographic groups, though her support was weakest among African-Americans, where she led Preckwinkle by 49 percent to 40 percent, just within the margin of error, the survey shows.

^^^ I'm officially denouncing the CTU as "trash"...

I've never seen a single special interest group wield so much power. I hope Hackwinkle goes down in flames 60-40 to shut the CTU up for good.

But it's never good to get too comfortable. Lightfoot needs to fight this out like she's losing
I hope she doesn't win but grow up please

CTU is probably the single largest problem with CPS.

has anyone caught the recent barrage of preckwinkle's negative TV ad?

it's probably just the bias of my lens, but it seems like an awfully desperate reach.

Steely, what are thinking about the 47th ward aldermen's race? Matt Martin supports a city income tax and an exchange tax. Negron is against both.

Good to hear. I have been reading about a few of these runoffs in our area, Rossanna Rodriguez/Mell, Martin/Negron and Vazquez/O'Connor.

Rodriguez, Martin and Vazquez are all Ramirez Rosa wanna be's. For the first time in my life, I am very afraid for the City's future.

i'm not that worried. the pendulum always swings back and forth.

the great blue blob has witnessed much success, but the tale of two cities theme is reaching its breaking point.

too many extreme winners and too many extreme losers is an extremely unsustainable model. we need more middle.

some of these left wing loonies will try to implement all kinds of misguided ideas, but i have faith in the sensibility of consensus and compromise.
