I know that church well. I was baptized there, served as an altar boy there, lost my cherry to Father Jean-Pierre there, had my first communion there, went to numerous weddings and funerals there, was married there and eventually had my own funeral there, too.

Beautiful Montreal image.

I like the Calgary one's as well, it shows the areas that the city want to invest in the foreground, making one's imagination wander about the future of that downtown.

I find that if you take out the Downtown part, it looks very Inner Chicago-ish.

Chicago doesn't have a ton of uniformity in their dense pre-war neighbourhoods. Even with the skyline included, I've always gotten Philadelphia vibes from similar angles of Montreal. I think it's the level, flat roof line across entire streets that does it.

Looks tiny because it's 4 k. away and downhill. From that perspective, we only see the upper half of Tour de la Bourse.

Indeed it is. The topography onto which the downtown is built often makes it look less tall and less dense than it actually is.

Also, downtown really works as a collection of modest midrises with the occasional cluster of skyscrapers interspersed here and there.

Thirded. Though of course Philadephia is mostly rowhouses and not triplexes like in Montreal. And Montreal has those outdoor staircases.

Montreal's vernacular built form is totally unique. There's nothing else like it anywhere in the world. It really is that special. I totally gush every time I walk down those streets in the Plateau and Mile End.
