It was -15C out and windy. The Ian Fowler Oval has been quite a hit actually. It's been busy most evenings. It's refrigerated with it's own ice plant and dedicated Zamboni. I believe they plan on keeping it open from December to mid April.

Moncton is getting more urban. Drectlly behind me when taking the photo is the construction site for the new Hyatt Place Hotel. Another new hotel will start construction immediately behind the federal complex (in the background of the photo above) this spring.

Further to the above, here's a neat photo taken from the Hyatt Place construction site in Moncton, looking across Canada Street towards the Avenir Centre and the Federal Complex.

Moncton is growing up! There are at least four major projects in various stages of the planning process within a 1-2 block radius of the new Avenir Centre.

Raiders could potentially be playing a preseason game at Mosaic in August.

Wouldn't BC Place or Commonwealth make more sense as they are closer to Oakland have much larger stadiums and Saskatchewan is the most diehard CFL market and most hostile to NFL compared to other CFL markets.

It does seem to be a weird choice, but maybe Regina's just more active in grabbing these types of events? They seem to have been pushing hard for them.

They might also be afraid of not selling out those larger stadiums. Canada hasn't had the greatest track record in putting butts in the seats for the NFL. Regina's the appropriate mix of the most appropriate stadium and most supportive football market in the country.

Most supportive CFL market. Vancouver is a much larger football market than Regina. A Raiders ex game would do well here.

BC Place is being used by the Whitecaps on the 17th and by the Lions on the 24th of August.

Commonwealth is being used by the Eskimos on the 9th and 23rd of August.

Mosaic is open for just over three weeks in August between the 1st and 24th. I'm presuming Mosaic is being proactive in looking for dates to fill for the stadium. They have a track record of looking for different events to fill the schedule (outdoor hockey, international soccer, and now an NFL preseason game).

Yes, but the difference isn't that large for NFL interest, at least proportionally:

Angus Reid Sports Preference Poll, 2018

I have a very hard time believing BC has more CFL fans than Manitoba as a % of the respective provinces.

Vancouver's a larger football market than Regina because it's a bigger city. In terms of per capita support, I just don't see it.

The Seahawks have 7000 season ticket holders from Metro Vancouver. There’s a pretty big NFL following in Vancouver. Support for football is substantial around here. Proportionally just as much or more than Regina I suspect.

I don't dispute the first sentence, but spending a few days in Regina during football season will show you why you're absolutely wrong on the second sentence.

Eh. Everybody in Regina owns a Rider shirt or jersey. The culture of the city is to dress in green on game day, whether you’re a football fan or not. It’s like a weird prairie cult.

The City of Calgary just approved both our new NHL arena and our new multi-sport fieldhouse.

The fieldhouse doesn't include any developments for the Stamps, correct?

This definitely came out of the blue, I hadn't heard anything about negotiations. Hopefully they didn't cave on the Flames' demands.

Nope, you're correct. But I should correct myself, the arena hasn't been approved, but the progression of negotiations with Flames ownership has been approved. So it shouldn't be long.

While not going to Lions games is the weird coastal cult.

So which proposal are we talking about here? I've lost track of what was on the table.

"Progression of negotiations with Flames ownership has been approved." Huh, what does this even mean? Ownership group has said they are NOT interested in any more city morphed "proposals." This goes back last year. This is just another "hair brained" proposal the city is so desparately trying to entice the group with....means nothing and never will.

RE: Oakland.

You have to wonder if tourism and travel data fell into the mix along with stadium availability. If the Raiders are moving to Vegas maybe there is data to support that a large proportion of Regina residents go to Vegas routinely for travel and thus it is an easy way to try and establish fan roots. I always remember Arizona and Vegas being popular vacation places for Regina folks.

A short article came out today about the CFL ownership group in Halifax. They have committed $60M to the project, and the stadium is expected to cost around $130M. They say they will provide a "significant update" at the end of March:
