It would be perfect for a Chapters if they could ever afford a space like that downtown again.
Chapters? They (Indigo) just opened a brand new store on Robson.

As in a fancy heritage building on several floors with huge street level presence. Reading comprehension.

Oh ok... I see. Well I'm sure that if they can afford their current 29k sq ft multi floor modern space on Robson, they could probably afford this 35k sq ft hertiage space. Who knows?

it was hypothetical... that's what 'if' implies.

updated article - Victoria's Secret not leaving this location. Did VC buzz just assume they were leaving and post an article without talking to people at the company....?

Agreed, would be a good space for a multi level retail space who has open concept stores, like Uniqlo or a modern furniture store. Both HMV and VS didn't and doesn't do anything with the architecture in such a prominent location. HMV at least catered to a wider demographic. VS is very closed off.

Virgin had the windows completely blocked off with billboards.

HMV opened them up so you could look in.

Amazon to open all-new grocery stores separate from Whole Foods

Quote:
Amazon reportedly feels confident enough in its grocery-store quests to branch out into new ventures. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Amazon plans to open dozens of new grocery stores that will be distinctly different from the company's Whole Foods Market stores. The retail giant has reportedly already signed leases for some locations and plans to open the new grocery stores in cities across the country, including San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Washington DC.

...

It appears Amazon wants to grab a larger sector of the market by offering a wider variety of items in these new grocery stores than it currently offers at Whole Foods locations. Although the grocer has expanded its offerings since Amazon bought it back in 2017 for $13.7 billion, Whole Foods is generally considered an upper-scale grocery store chain and it continues to have strict food quality standards for the items it carries (no artificial flavor, colors, preservatives, sweeteners, etc).

Aside from the fact that Amazon plans to open some stores this year, little is known about the intended layout. Reportedly, Amazon is looking to open in locations that are smaller than typical grocery stores—35,000 square feet instead of 60,000 square feet. The Wall Street Journal's report also claims Amazon is looking into an "acquisition strategy" for purchasing smaller, local grocery store chains in order to more quickly expand its own plans.

...

These new plans come as Amazon continues to roll out new Go cashierless stores across the country as well. Currently, there are Amazon Go stores in Seattle, San Francisco, and Chicago. It's unclear if Amazon intends for its new grocery stores to be cashierless, but the new locations will give the company another avenue to test out such technology if it chooses to do so.
Something they would try here?

I didn't get an answer last time, so I'll repost with a picture. Anyone know who is spending a ton of money to renovate the retail space where HSBC used to be on South Granville? Seems like an awful lot of work unless you have deep pockets.

on the southgranville.org website 3022 granville is listed as HSBC, so perhaps HSBC is renovating itself? as the 3022 looks very small

I don’t think so as they opened a branch farther south near Meinhardts, unless that temporary, but it looks permanent.

The address in question is 2735/2737 Granville Street. Google Street Maps shows a 'leased' sign as of July 2018 before exterior work began. The for lease sheet for the building through CBRE mentions the renovations, so I imagine the landlord is driving it: http://urbanpropertiesgroup.ca/wp-content/uploads/2735Granville_MN_MoM_Email-4.pdf (render inside)

Despite the questionable appropriateness of its location, we shouldn't be "disappointed" that Victoria's Secret isn't closing that location... Bricks and mortar retail is suffering right now and Robson is brearing the brunt. As much as Uniqlo would be good there, its an "if" question, and not worth the negative news associated with the high profile departure of a brand like Victoria's Secret. It would be a black eye for retail in the City and to be one of 3 locations in Canada, and such a high profile one, would be a bad foretelling of possible other retailers having issues. Things aren't super booming and overheated now anymore here, with the China issues and the general economy and the state of retail in general, I for one would not be happy to see a news story confirming they are closing...
