I recall it came out that it was Ashford Investments (who has offices across the road) who bought the three lots along Gordon.

Those lots have since been cleared, and now the two properties immediately north have also been snapped up (although I don't know by whom).

Anyone heard anything? That's a pretty big footprint just down the road from the Avenir Centre ... makes a guy wonder.

Yes, the two properties that you referred to have indeed been purchased by Ashford as well, and have been consolidated with the others, so they are obviously planning something big here, and this is only a block from the Avenir Centre too!

BTW - Welcome to the forums!

FYI, I've been told that Ashford has also recently spoken to an additional local landowner regarding his property (green), though it has not sold yet.

I think it's interesting to note the this entire block is owned by two companies. #1 Ashford #2 R.D.R Realty. Any ideas on whether R.D.R. Realty can handle a big project on this block?

It would seem there is a 5-6 story hotel (probably 6 stories) going where the "V" Hotel is now and from what I'm hearing it's breaking ground when the weather becomes favorable.

A rumour for awhile, but this is the first I've heard of someone saying how big it will be. Do you know the branding???

Sorry no I don't, this one is more than a rumour though but I guess anything can happen (look at the original Hilton plans).

My cousin comes down here a couple of times a year for a visit. She stays at the V Hotel. When she called to reserve this year they said that they are not taking bookings past April as the hotel will be demolished in the spring. She is staying there the week of April 8. Whoever she was talking to also said that there will be no hotel there until the new one opens in 2020-2021, whatever that means. I take everything as rumour until I hear it officially.

Does anyone have any more info on the apartment building going up at the corner of Victoria and Archibald? I drive by there every day and when I look at the location there seems to be at least one (if not two) houses in the way. Did the developers already purchase those houses? I can't see them building around them.

Not confirmatory to be sure, but your anecdote adds to the growing body of evidence that the rumour about a new hotel at this site is indeed true. It sounds as if shovels will be in the ground in the next few months.

I firmly believe the lower portion of Highfield Street will be unrecognizable in five years time. There are at least three, if not four major projects at various stages of planning and development for this neighbourhood.

render

if You are referring to the houses right on the corner, they will indeed be building around them.

Well there you have it then. The evidence is getting insurmountable. I think it’s pretty clear there will be another crane on the Moncton skyline this summer.

In fact, given that the superstructure of the Hyatt Place will be done about then, maybe they’ll just move that crane a half block up Highfield Street when the time comes.

I wish I could say more (I'm not sure what is public knowledge) but my source is not second hand, a hotel is going where the V Hotel is and they break ground when weather permits.

So, to my knowledge, the map below indicates all the consolidated properties ready for development (or currently under development) in the west end of the downtown core around the Avenir Centre.

1) - Hyatt Place Hotel (under construction)
2) - Aquillini Block (includes Crowne Plaza Hotel), plans unknown, likely mixed use
3) - Ashford owned, plans unknown.
4) - V Hotel property (new hotel, construction imminent, rumoured to be 6 floors)
5) - Ashford owned, probably mixed use residential of some form
6) - Parcel 'A' (part of the events centre lands), plans unknown
7) - Junction Urban Village, (Tannery Place 1 & Tannery Place 2 (residential), future office building on the corner of Main and Vaughn Harvey as well).
8) - Junction Urban Village, (Home 2 Suites by Hilton)
9) - New Codiac Regional RCMP Headquarters.
10) - Crombie REIT lands, no known plans, although refurbishment of 1222 Main at some point seems likely.

If anyone can think of anything I've missed, let me know.........

EDIT - I added in the Crombie REIT lands for completeness sake.

Imagine the boost to the tax base involving these properties at full buildout.

I noticed the sale of the Midtown Motel (61-65 Weldon) closed on Feb 27th for $1,138,500. The associated lot across the street (60 Weldon) did not trade, according to SNB. I seem to recall both were listed at the same time by the same owner, but apparently the properties were not tied to one another.

According to Huddle, the Applewood Smoked BBQ Restaurant in the old Keating's space at the corner of Main & Robinson will open on March 8th. It has seating for 32 people.
