The shorter tower is a non-market rental component done in conjunction with Housing BC and the taller one is obviously the market units.
If the floor height is correct and assuming a typical residential floor-to-floor height for this kind of project, then it's going to be the tallest tower on that Beresford row of towers once its complete.

(or perhaps joint tallest. I can't quite remember how tall the taller Sun Towers tower will be in terms of floor height or actual height.
But certainly it will be taller than anything that's built or in construction there right now.)

Yes it is under construction.

Since I posted that last comment, I've been able to glean from marketing material that the taller Sun Towers tower will be 41 storeys tall (26 for the shorter tower).

Even accounting for a generous residential floor-to-floor height (or the chunky office podium with typical higher-than-residential office floor heights of about 2-3 feet), it's still highly unlikely that even it will be taller than this new Thind Highline tower which is proposed at 48 storeys.

That 7 storey difference represents anywhere between a 60-70 feet (or 18-21 meter) difference in height. And even if we were to assume that the Sun Tower had 10 foot floor-to-floor heights for the tower stem versus 9 foot floor-to-floor heights for the Thind tower, they'd still be around 20 feet shorter in total.
(this is disregarding the extra height in the office space floor-to-floor heights in the podium which would undoubtedly be taller the residential. But we don't know if the Thind tower has any office space in their podium or how tall their actual podium is.The rendering suggests 9 floors - but is it commercial, office space,amenities?).

Obviously all of this is just speculation as we don't have an official height (in actual meters or feet) released for the Sun Towers project. The Thind tower is slated to be 158.5m tall - and by that metric alone it is bound to be the tallest when complete.

What's the plan for Royal Oak, it's kinda weird to see homes in the midst of industrial type use. Is the city slowly letting it move out and replace it with housing or do they want to keep it mixed like that?

North of skytrain south of Kingsway seems like Royal Oak Eastwards is light industrial being developed into low rise apartments with retail components at street level (examples being the site adjacent to the station and the two U/C projects on Lane street), really glad to see them putting retail at grade, encouraging for foot traffic.

Then Gilley Westwards is seeing industrial sites being redeveloped into row/townhomes, probably the plan is for this to continue until the meet the apartments closer to Royal Oak. I think the former Hertz site on Gilley is the next townhome development to go up.
The longest light industrial holdouts are going to be between MacPherson and Buller north of Beresford.

New BC EHS building on Buller is done (amalgamating special operations and the 246 and 260 stations (Vancouver Ormidale + New West) that have been using temp locations.)

Burnaby has been slowly moving industrial to the Big Bend area.

The EHS building is too small - someone is going to have to move to another location sooner or later.

thanks. Right now its obviously in transition and all the new housing seems random. Yes that one next to royal oak going on now will be good with retail along that street.

Burnaby-based electronics manufacturer Dorigo Systems has broken ground a new facility on Glenlyon Parkway.

The company held a small ceremony earlier this month at the site of its future 106,000-square-feet manufacturing plant, located at Glenlyon Business Park. Once complete, the new facility will be more than twice the size of its existing location on Henning Drive and will increase Dorigo’s production capacity and improve efficiency for its customers, according to a press release.

This is great - Dorigo is a proper BC industrial manufacturing success story. Not many like it. I know the expansion has been on the drawing boards for many years, really happy to see it finally move forward.

Politicians gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony in Edmonds Tuesday to mark the start of construction on a 91-unit seniors housing complex.

They then walked down the road for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a recently completed 90-unit affordable housing project on 15th Street, across the street from Ernie Winch Park. The new building across the street from Ernie Winch Park includes two-, three- and four-bedroom units, including five designed for disabled residents.

Less than replacement level for the old complex site they gave in exchange for this building and the seniors housing
