This would be a HUGE increase in capacity.

Lets all just wait a few days or even a week to wait for all the new schedules to be loaded into the system. It takes time. Especially with that many changes across the network.

Their "schedule listings" and what you can buy when you do a search for booking are different... you currently can book both the rouge & express flights. I usually check the schedule site when flight changes are announced https://www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/home/book/routes-and-partners/flight-schedules.html as it is usually more up to date with the projected changes.

J81 is correct, it can take a while to load all of these changes in the booking system, especially during periods of large-scale system changes. Probably will settle out over the next week or so.

Hasn't been this much chatter on the Atlantic Canada airport thread for a while

Good tip about the schedule site.

I checked this site for YQM-YYZ for a date in June and it confirmed:

- AC Rouge x3 (A319) departing at 0600, 1220 & 1830 hrs
- AC Express x1 (Q400) departing at 2030 hrs

This confirms the initial rumours of four daily departures (3x A319 & 1x Q400)

So, Moncton retains 4x daily AC service to YYZ (instead of 5x currently), but with an upgrade to jet service three of those four times. It's surprising that AC will have two evening flights to YYZ out of Moncton, but only one early morning flight. Like I said, if you have to make connections in YYZ, book early!

The site also gave a number of connecting possibilities through Halifax, Ottawa and Montreal (confirming that Beechcraft equipment is still listed in use for the route to Halifax), so my embargo of YHZ as a connecting airport will continue.

It does make one wonder what will become of the Beechcraft services from Halifax - While the western services which have been shut down in the latest AC schedule changes were run by Georgian, the ones out of Halifax are run by EVAS and there's been no indication of any changes on that arrangement. Air Canada is also getting rid of their DH1 aircraft (37 seats) over the next year - so quite a big jump up to the 50 seat DH3 if those Beechcraft routes have to be up-gauged.

EDIT: Checked on the YFC-YHZ flights... currently 3 daily (2 Beechcraft, 1 DH3)... May 1st switch to a 4 daily all Beechcraft

Interesting, I have a May 3th flight out of Fredericton to Toronto and I already picked my seats on the old plane and I tried to log in and see if my flight changed and it looks like a different plane and wants me to pay to pick my seats again. Thanks for the heads up I am going to give them a call to see what is going on. I never got an email either

United Airlines is upgrading 2 of the 3 United Express flights from Halifax to New York (Newark) this summer (Beginning June 6th) to a mainline A320 (150 seats) and A319 (128 seats).
Tickets are also sold by Air Canada for these flights.

United Express already announced Halifax to Chicago starting starting June 6th.

I am looking at the schedule between YQM and YYZ (May 2nd departure and May 16th return in particular), it seems there is another Q400 flight in the afternoon at 3:50 leaving Moncton. That will make the daily flights between Moncton and Toronto 5 times (3 * A319 and 2 * Q400). The final return flight from YYZ to YQM will be around 9 PM which is approximately 1 hour earlier than the current final return flight and may cause some trouble for transitions if international travelers have late (or delayed) connection at Toronto before their flight to Moncton.

Interesting. Of course, schedules are fluid creatures subject to some change on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. It could be that at some times there will be 5x departures and at other times 4x departures. Porter usually has 2x flights per day to Ottawa and Toronto, but this decreases to 1x daily on the weekend for example.

You're comment about the early final departure from YYZ to YQM is disturbing. I've certainly caught the last flight out of Toronto on a number of occasions because of connections. This could cause me some problems........

The new schedule has hit me with the loss of the 20:30 YQM-YYZ departure, I've been moved to the 18:30 Rouge flight, which screws up my dinner plans and now means a six hour layer in Pearson for my international flight. Unfortunately, there are no later flights on either AC or Westjet...

I use all 3 major NB airports depending on connections to international flights. It's a shame to see the YYZ frequency reductions, especially out of YFC with only 2 flights per day, and no early morning departures. It would seem AC wants to drive more traffic though YUL, as that early morning fight is still in the schedule.

Flight schedule is odd. This is from the AC website schedule page.

Freddy to TO - 2 Rouge and 1 Q400 during the week.
- 2 Rouge on weekends Nothing early, 1150 is not ideal.

Moncton to TO - 3 Rouge and 1 Q400 with one early flight 0600

SJ to TO - 4 Q400s as usual, 0515 is the early flight.

Hmm the new AC schedule for Freddy means that planes and crews are not overnighting in Freddy any more. So they don't have to put crews in the airport motel, and don't have to keep the plane overnight at the airport. I wonder if that might be intentional on Air Canada's part, or maybe something the air crews were pressuring AC to do?

Hmm the current schedule has the last flight to YFC arriving at 1AM and the next one leaving YFC at 06:00; that can't be with the same crew is it? That's only 4 hours of rest at most. Does the 0100 crew wait and crew the Noon flight back to Toronto?

Yes that would be the most likely scenario.

Fredericton Chamber of Commerce is fighting for the early Toronto flight

Quote:
Krista Ross, the chief executive officer of the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce, said she is hopeful Air Canada can be persuaded to restore the early flight to accommodate people who need to get to Toronto by the start of the working day.
The changes are pretty much locked in for the summer; but there is pressure to bring back the morning routes. I wish them well in that fight. Considering how limited we are with the hub and spoke model, losing the early morning flight is rather frustrating for connections.

We can only hope. The changes they have made make zero sense for anyone departing the Freddy airport. If they increased early flights to Montreal or Ottawa I would understand a bit more but that has not happened yet. As I said before west jet would be wise to step in and send a q400 early in the AM. They could charge whatever the heck they wanted and people would fill that plane.

I second that for WestJet. I can't remember the last time I flew out of Fredericton and it wasn't on the early morning Toronto flight with Air Canada. It gets you to most major cities in North America before noon, local time. I flew all the way to San Diego last August from Fredericton and I left on the early Air Canada flight which got me to Pearson and from Pearson I arrived in San Diego around noon local time and in time for the 2PM Padres game. Not that I like Pearson (I feel their security are always on "Power Trip Mode" compared to major airports I've visited), but it usually gets you to more places than Montreal.

Really hope so, I use that flight and I would hate to have to drive and spend more time in Moncton just to be able to get to Toronto early AM. wont be much sense with an airport expansion if they get rid of this flight

Well, they're getting rid of one of the two early morning AC flights out of Moncton too. I think it'll already be the busiest flight of the day.

I think AC had better reconsider their strategy.......

Times & Transcript is reporting that the Kalitta Air 747 clipped a snow bank with one engine at the Moncton airport Monday evening. They have to send a special crew here to fly it out.
