Yeah it’s going to be great for both vehicles and pedestrians. It’s a great location for a traffic signal.

The Business Chronicle has an article on this new downtown student tower proposal.

Plans were just submitted in Atlanta for a 650-bed project at 116 Luckie St. NW, a surface parking lot in walking distance to the popular music venue and other attractions including Centennial Olympic Park.

The applicant for the project is Robert Patterson, president of CityLife Development Partners. Patterson could not be immediately reached for comment.

Patterson is involved in another student housing project in Midtown called The Mark, a joint venture with Athens, Ga.-based student housing developer Landmark Properties.

It seems like a strange concept for downtown Atlanta but that looks pretty solid. I see that they are planning hotels in Nashville and NY city also.

Looks much better than I was expecting but the idea of a Margaritaville Hotel in downtown ATL is strange to me. Feels like it belongs in Myrtle Beach or Destin

Is it just me, but the multi facade buildings just look cheap and chaotic. Less is more.

That's exactly the point the planning commissioner has made. Instead of trying to stick a bunch of different facades together to "break up" the monotony of the building, just stick to the basics and use quality materials.

Not a bad building. They do need to add an awning over the street sidewalk so you don't get puked on from the balcony above.

This tone is echoed all over this forum. Can someone explain what they actually mean when saying "quality materials"? It tends to get repeated here a lot, to the point where it has been used about every style of architecture. So - I ask you SkyscraperPage-ers, what does "quality materials" mean to you?

When I think of quality materials, I am thinking of materials that will last the longest without the need for restoration or replacement.
Examples may be; Bronze, Copper, Stainless steel, natural stone or brick, steel & concrete materials.

I think newer stucco & certain plastics and wood used improperly would be frowned upon as a general rule.

I suppose, anything that saves a buck at the expense of longevity.

New images of the redevelopment of historic Pullman Yard show how the project could appeal to creative workers.

The renderings detail loft office and co-working space at the more than $100 million project in Atlanta's Kirkwood neighborhood.

Atomic Entertainment LLC, which bought the former railyard for $8 million, wants to develop a "creative city" anchored by sound stages. It will also include an incubator for startups, a boutique hotel, housing and an outdoor concert venue.
