Amazon to Nashville and Apple to Austin appear to suggest that neither urbanity nor mass-transit are high priorities.

Aside: on choosing Nashville, Alliance-Bernstein frankly stated that lack of transit wasn't an issue.

Also, Amazon to NYC and DC suggests an "Oh, well" regarding cost-of-living.

My theory is that, particularly with the selection of Nashville, it came down to the feels.

Yes. If the Gulch is built out according to plan, the perception of Atlanta's downtown (and all of Atlanta, for some visitors) should change immensely.

And Underground and South Downtown. I think South Downtown will be much more impactful to the "image" of downtown and will likely be realized much sooner than the Gulch.

Remember that Google was looking for a new location for their Ops center with 5k jobs and were deciding between Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, and Dallas?

I think they selected Chicago for their ops center

NY is looking hard at their decision to fund Amazon due to so much opposition and Amazon is re-thinking NY.

NOT true at all. What makes you think Suntrust is vacating its headquarters building?

Atlanta is one of those 17 offices/hubs so this might work out in its favor.

That is some BS...Nashville is way too small and 0 transit. Atlanta checked most if not all of the requirements in the first place...

It's unlikely that Nashville can scale up to 25,000 new employees. Northern Virginia probably could take 50,000, but that would defeat the purpose of Amazon's claim of wanting to split HQ2 so as not to overwhelm one locale. It would make sense that they'd bump hiring a lot in their existing hub cities with NoVa being the true HQ2.
