I was wondering about something, and wasn't sure if it's been discussed elsewhere.

Back when KFC moved out, people wanted the building to be preserved because it "represented" the old commercial style KFC used. Now that Dominoes moved in, they've renovated and given it a "new look". If that's the case. could expect the building to be torn down and redeveloped with a condo/ apartment building with its front aligned with the other buildings on Wellington? No sense keeping a small building with surface parking on a sought-after commercial street, right?

The former KFC site

Dominoes did a number on it. Prime for redevelopment now. If a developer could include the barbershop at the back, it would be a good spot for a 2-3 story building.

Anyone know why Hintoburger moved out? Article in the Citizen today, the owner said they moved out of KFC and into the former location of the problematic Vibe Lounge "in an effort to help protect our neighbourhood ". Not quite understanding this reasoning. They're vacating that location now as well and plan on finding a new one by the summer.

Coun. Jeff Leiper recovering from heart attack after shovelling snow

Blair Crawford, Ottawa Citizen
Updated: February 13, 2019

Kitchissippi Coun. Jeff Leiper is recovering in the University of Ottawa Heart Institute after having a heart attack Wednesday morning from what he called “some enthusiastic shovelling.”

Leiper posted a message to constituents Wednesday evening saying he had undergone angioplasty at the heart institute after experiencing a STEMI — ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction — a heart attack caused by a blocked artery.

“I feel great, the doctors are positive, and I’m looking forward to resuming my duties soon,” he wrote.

Earlier Wednesday, Leiper had posted on Twitter a warning about the “goodly amount of snow” and urging constitutents to be careful on the roads, to mind their sidewalks and to avoid street parking.

In his open letter, Leiper said he had been a smoker since he was 18. “My first step to a complete recovery is to quit smoking,” he wrote.

He said he would be taking “a couple of weeks of rest” and had told Mayor Jim Watson he would be “missing a few committee meetings.”

He thanked his partner, Natalie, for her support: “I know this has been hard on her.”

Leiper, 48, is one of the most energetic councillors in the city, dashing from meetings to public events and riding his bike around town in almost all weather. He was first elected to council in 2014.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to serving you, but know you will understand that I will be focusing on rest and my family for the next couple of weeks,” he wrote.

“Please be careful shovelling out there! Take it easy and don’t over-exert. Your family and friends will thank you.”

Given this is the rumour thread... I have heard that Claridge has purchased the CBIC location across from Icon at Preston and Carling and beside the Richcraft / Dow Honda site. Nothing to prove it... just a rumour at this point. There are a few of you that know how to check into these land deals so perhaps you can confirm?

Is there a thread for the proposed SOHO towers at 267 O'Connor at Maclaren?

The thread for this should be changed from proposed to cancelled. Wasn’t there an OMB meeting that put the final nail in the coffin for this one...like back in 2015/6?

Don't know if there is already a thread for this, but the latest community voice (ottawa south) has a story on plans by claridge to rezone 16 hectares of employment lands northwest of Conroy and Johnston roads to general urban for a residential development. I guess it already went to planning committee Feb. 14th.

I dropped into the public meeting on this.

The proposal is for a residential development on a district energy system. The official plan amendment includes a site specific policy that any residential must be on a district energy system.

The concept showed that about half the site would be residential and the other half would include an arena; the waste heat from the arena would need the district energy system for the residential.

Seems pretty cool.

I heard this week that Canadian Tire is going to be moving into the former Sears location at Carlingwood Mall.

I would find it hard to believe that Canadian Tire would put up another store at Carlingwood. A good fit for that old Sears space, though, would one (or more) of Canadian Tire's other banner stores like Mark's, Atmosphere, PartSource, etc. I'm surprised they haven't put up an Atmosphere store in Ottawa yet, seems like a great market for one.

There used to be one on Innes Rd in Orleans near Tenth Line in the Dymon building (along with a Sports Experts) but I guess that is closed now.

Actually it looks like all Sports Experts on the Ottawa side are closed as well; when did that happen?

Canadian Tire (owner of Forzani Group) made a decision I think 1-2 years ago to align their banners regionally. No more Sports Experts outside Quebec (maybe a couple in NB). Some were converted to Sport Chek, some to National Sports and some closed. There are Atmosphere stores all over Canada, but just not in Ottawa (there is one at Promenades Gatineau). Agreed, this is an interesting omission.
