QC A50 to Get Steel Cables

https://www.ledroit.com/actualites/une-cloture-sur-la-50-cc081d8f220c2bf34ed79935c6d9f11f

MTQ's planning to put those types of barriers where the super 2's the most accident-prone, in the interim.

Since they look like the cables installed on 401 between Chatham-Kent and London and since those cables have proven to prevent cross-over collisions, A-50 should be less stressful drive after this summer.

Great video. Looks like those roads could use some major upgrades along with a lot more capacity. I wonder if the guy on the motorcycle around the 7:45 mark survived the night--what an idiot!

Thanks! Honourable mention also goes to the car who cut me off like a Rocket at 1:03, aswell as that expensive car who enter & exit the Freeway at 7:00 and 7:06 while crossing solid lanes twice...

I noticed that the Freeways of Toronto are filled of Young Douchebags driving expensive cars dangerously at fast speed...

Thanks, love that video.

Like a lot of you, I'm hooked on big, and structure, and urban geography, etc., and how we experience them all. The Don Valley Pkwy was one of a number of Toronto roads that got me hooked on everything 'big city.' Winding down the valley amongst the passing suburban towers, and with the growing and intermittent presence of downtown, it was awesome. And, still is, except driving the windy freeway is added fun. (Not in traffic. I wonder how many of you were like me though: as a kid, part of big was big traffic. I was often happy to sit in the back seat in a crawling jam and watch the city)
The other three:
1) coming down the 400 and spotting the downtown towers from way out before progressing into the rapidly increasing scale of all things urban, with the climax of hitting the 401; 2) the 401 just for itself; 3) coming into downtown on the Gardiner and being able to see the skyline grow and grow.

Thanks! I wonder what will happen to the elevated section of the Gardiner in the future. Are they going to convert it into an urban boulevard? rebuilding it in a trench / Below stretch or making a tunnel, such as the Ville-Marie Tunnel in Montréal ?

The city is about to spend $1 billion to completely rehabilitate it and slightly realign it at it's far eastern end. It's sticking around for a while.

To make a curve from DVP smoother?

1 Billion $ ? That's darn serious ! When is it supposed to start? Do we have plans and/or renders about it ?

I'm not sure what the timeline is for the replacement of the Gardiner Expressway east of Cherry Street is, however the City has a draft timeline proposed for Gardiner Expressway projects that includes a render of what is proposed to link the current expressway to the Don Valley Parkway at the Don River. It can be found on page 13 of the slide deck linked to below:

The curve is actually going to be even sharper than it is today.

The realignment is still a while off but rehabilitation works on the parts that are staying start in the spring.

One advantage of turning it into a tunnel is that it fixes the problem of things falling from balconies; that girl who threw a chair last weekend is now in custody, but there aren't many details yet.

You guys are so lucky being able to talk about road construction and widening.

We only had one BC expansion proposal............to widen HWY#1 from 4 lanes to 6 between Langley and Abbotford and potential, someday, to Chilliwack. Alas the project has been cancelled. It is the busiest trucking route in the province and literally connect Vancouver to the Interior and the rest of the country and between Langley to Chilliwack has daily traffic volumes of between 60,000 to 75,000 and averages 2 accidents a day between Lang/Chill but in BC even one extra lane on a road that hasn't changed since the 1960s is just too much to ask.
Any extra lanes or replacements of the George Massey have also put on hold. The tunnel remains exactly the same as it was when it was built in the 1960s and carries over 100,000 vehicles a day on 2 lanes in each direction.

Outside of HWY#1 betwtween Van & Langley, there are no 6 lane highways ANYWHERE in the province. 6 lane regular streets are also non-existent anywhere in Vancouver save rush hour on Granville, Burrard, and Hastings Street in the city and the Kingsway in Burnaby.
