It's a bit of a hassle to get on (if you are right in the middle) but I would argue that this lack of onramps is one of the reasons that there is always less CBD congestion on the 417 East comparted to West.

My buddy used to live on Balsam and I would always do the little West backtrack to Parkdale to get on Eastbound rather than snaking my way through downtown to Metcalfe.

Isn't Parkdale the one that is as congested as ever?

The downtown roads are also a mess, and they should build a road comparable to Catherine/Raymond for the 417 Eastbound

Isabella?
The only thins is there are4 off-ramps within a kilometre and a half (Bronson - Lees/Nicholas), and the interchange at Leesis horrible. Imagine adding an interchange between Kent/Metcalfe?

I was thinking about this the other day.

Align Chamberlain with the current Bronson EB offramp and add an EB onramp similar to what exists at EB Metcalfe. Aligning Chamberlain with the current offramp allows the current Chamberlain/Plymouth/Imperial/Bronson intersection to be moved slightly north and better organized.

Isn't there already a ghost ramp (onto the EB 417) somewhere along Chamberlain, but that was condemned long ago?

The traces of it have faded away with time, but I think this is your ghost ramp right here:

Geottawa shows the ramp in 1976 but it was gone by 1991.

The problem is there isn't enough room to weave before the Kent off-ramp

Here's a pic from 1980. That ghost ramp is already fenced off.

What the heck!!?? Also, I think that it was fenced off for the expansion of the Queensway during the 80s. Was it the 80s or another time?

You can also see the (Metcalfe?) northbound off-ramp (abandoned) at the top left.

So basically there were at least 4 weaving on/off, two in each direction?

No, I don't think it's abandoned. There is still an off ramp onto Metcalfe.

Not Metcalfe, he is referring to the abandoned westbound off-ramp directly to Kent Street northbound. There was a stupid-short off-ramp there in the 60s and 70s. You can see it in the 1976 and 1965 imagery in geoOttawa.

Remnants of the old westbound Kent St. off ramp?

Ah, mystery solved... I often wondered about the extra width and weird alignment of the southern edge of the Percy St underpass. Former onramp makes sense!

Back then, people actually drove the speed limit? Security and safety were less of an issue? Engineering has come a long way since then? Traffic deaths have been reduced due to engineering. Thanks, Engineering!
