Gotcha, thanks for the info. Do you think the south section will be paved by 2022?

I forget what their timeline is at the moment... but IMO depends how they roll it out- they may roll out in chunks due to the length or build out the trail then the parks. Goal is to be complete with design and shovel ready by late 2020. Then they have to solicit bids, select a contractor, then obviously the build out. If they’re aggressive, they can make it by end of 2022, especially if they don’t shoot themselves in the foot by hiring a contractors with a limited workforce. Despite not receiving the grant, the beltline should have the finances in place for the SST buildout.

Connecting the two trails should be a priority along with beginning transit construction. Both will be game changers for the city and will likely alter development patterns.

Nice adds! I was just about to look for these.

Anyone know if Memorial Drive will receive a pedestrian scramble? Seems appropriate considering the location of the trail and that people may jaunt towards Atlanta Dairies, Madison Yards, or continue to the SST.

I love that the trail is in place by the old depot now! My very first official beltline meeting was right there on 12 May 2004 with Shirley Franklin and Kathy Woolard. Eastside trail was open 10 years later. This has been quite a journey

At the meeting last night, they said it would be a pedestrian scramble, but unlike the one on Dekalb/Krog it's not buttonized, it just includes pedestrians as part of every cycle. This inclusion was a recommendation from GDOT.

This is great news. I expected pedestrians will have to wait a bit to cross Memorial. IMO it will be worth it

The last little bit of trail is now poured between Edgewood and DeKalb Ave. Fencing was still up today but people were walking the south part even though it's still officially separate

There are some huge iron sculptures of a charging bull, a lion and a dinosaur(?). Not sure what the theme is supposed to be

The sculptures look great and may be some of the best artwork along the EST, IMO. Funny enough, they’re on loan from mellow mushroom. It’s mellow mushroom, Godzilla, lion, and bull. Sculptures can be viewed here:

Eegads. Do the design standards have an "entryway arch" type of structure? I'm thinking of the gates on Piedmont at 12th & 14th Streets. Something functionally similar, but updated to match the Beltline. I guess the large stone installations at Monroe are something like a standard.

Might be a good time to eliminate electric scooters too. If the law is clear on no motorized or motor-assisted I think enforcement will be easier. Wheelchairs would be the only exemption
