Not sure if it's construction related but fort is blocked off and the surrounding area evacuated due to a gas leak I believe.

The entire complex is evacuated I heard on the radio. 360 main, 220 Portage and Winnipeg Square.

The crane is still standing, so that's good.

Apparently unrelated to the actual construction project... MTS (or a subtrade of theirs) is what I heard from security.

Hydro posted a photo of it on Twitter. A contractor of some sort hit the pipe on Fort St in a pavement cut. It was just below the concrete road.

Yesterday evening it was +4 here and the ground is mostly bare. Cooling off this morning though.

Gas lines are usually buried very shallow. That's why you are supposed to "call/click before you dig" even if it's just to plant a garden in your back yard.

They're usually only a couple feet deep. They don't need to be buried 6' under like water lines. This one seems to be a bit high, but probably is old.

330 sure is coming along nicely.

I wonder if 300 won't start having the steel beams installed until the core rises above those concrete pillars. If so we still have a couple floors to go until steel starts going in.

there appears to have been no action on the 300 Main core in the last couple of weeks. My guess is that it's too cold to pour concrete. Which begs the question...why must there be a concrete core here when in China they can build a supposedly earthquake proof (without a concrete core) 57 story building in just 19 working days? Mind you, they also had 8 tower cranes working in unison around the clock! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6f_sayw0mM

World War 2 was won by the Allies in part because of US industry being able to pump out everything at a rate faster than anyone else. China is able to accomplish more faster than anyone else right now by far. That's almost scary to watch.

China has cheap labour and a "do wtf we tell you" mentality. They demolish or slice through entire neighbourhoods, in some case individual buildings, to build their freeway network. It's a whole different beast over there.

I would like to hear the safety numbers on builds like those. How many died?

Their lack of safety is probably just part of their population control efforts.
