For me it has a luxurious look. Well cladded windows and reflective surface, nice entrance, and the "160" looks very nice when lighted up

If I want to move to downtown one day, it's a good choice for me

The cladding of the building is nice and I don't mind the materials – but the entire corner is just a massive blank black wall. And the attached parkade is brutal as well.

There was a little more life to that corner when it was a Sheraton Hotel. The existing parkade was the driveway and entrance to the hotel. Floor to ceiling windows on the York St. side enabling full view of the hotel lobby and lounge and windows on the east side of the building with full view of hotel's "Windows Restaurant". Now it's just a dead zone.

To be fair, if I remember right Timbercreek didn't "do" that building. Timbercreek bought that asset after it was redone.

......edited....it was an Andrew Marquess B&M/Gem Equities project then bought by Timbercreek.

I hate being a downer, this project is amazing... but the skywalk from cityplace to TNS is so underwhelming and uninviting. It's been open a couple months and still no signage saying where it goes/what it is (I'm sure that'll change), and it's just a reaaallllly long windowless hall, seemingly to nowhere.

Really wish they installed windows like on the other side of the arena skywalk. cityplace is starting to look a little weird and mish mashed with random different finishings all over the outside. Any yet the inside is looking great, and busier than ever. Walked through there at 6:15 pm yesterday and the mall and food court were PACKED. And not Portage Place packed where it was just people sitting, everyone was eating. No events at the arena.

^ I agree that the new skywalk is underwhelming, but it almost seems partly by design... we have a kind of love/hate relationship with the skywalk, so we end up putting them in somewhat reluctantly but pretty well every part of it except for the mall segments is as drab as can be. This TNS link is no different than the rest of the network in that regard.

As for Cityplace, it is a very big and busy food court... it's busy plenty of evenings and weekends due to all the events next door. It must make MPI a good amount of money, so it would be kind of nice if they spiffed it up a bit. IIRC it really wasn't touched when they upgraded the rest of the retail area a few years ago... it still feels like the 90s in there.

^I'd actually say most of the skywalk network is fairly pleasant. Some of the decor is a little drab, but most sections have a ton of windows which really help. I'd say the worst part is the one to RBCCC, which sucks as it's the probably the most seen by out-of-towners. It also essentially isn't heated.

The cityplace food court was completely renovated, and is quite nice now. Patio is great too.

^ Was it renovated? It couldn't have been much more than a coat of paint then, because I'm sure I was using the same tables there 25 years ago.

As for the skywalk system, it's an ocean of beige drywall. I don't think there is much aesthetic merit, but the parts with windows are nice.

25 years ago at City Place you would have been sitting at coloured plastic tables on those round coloured things that sort of looked like 5 gallon pail.

The current tables and chairs were taken out in batches a few years ago and repainted. Some of them look like the finish is coming off from that paint job and need to be done again.

We moved in to City Place in Oct 1980 and I thought the plastic tables lasted longer in service than 1989
