I think these are all the parking floors. The hotel floors should be taller. This is going to be a big building.

I work parttime at a bar close to the Odeon construction and some construction people came in today, two seemed more higher up, and I asked if they knew what was planned for the other half of that lot and they said to their knowledge it would be another tower like the Odeon.

Ugh! Should we show them a picture?! It's so upsetting! That, as well as the K&B building...what was there before would also make you cry what was lost!

Also: I was on the South Market District today after not having seen it in months. It's been very nicely updated. Anyways, there is a FOOD & DRINK section. It lists a Starbucks opening in spring 2019. Do we know where that will be? In addition, a bar, ice cream shop, and Mexican restaurant from Brooklyn are all listed as opening in spring 2019! Do we know where those will be??

Dang, that neighborhood is becoming...legit!

The three that I know where will be” Mexican restaurant will be in a spot in the standard and the ice cream shop will be in the beacon (actually posted the plans a page ago), that bar will be in the new ace hotel on Carondelet next to the original ace hotel .. Starbucks i have no clue but my guess is the beacon or standard

K&B is a great building, that old library that was torn down is a tragedy though. K&B is a Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill I believe

Supposedly, the Starbucks will be in the Beacon at the Girod/Okeefe corner.

Drove Video of Construction starting on 1016 Canal (burnt downt building)

https://www.facebook.com/wjpalmisano/videos/498344054025786/

Construction has officially begun at 1016 Canal Street. The 4-story 20th-century building features a historic Italianate style facade, one of the few structural elements left behind after the building caught fire in 2016. The structure will be shored and restored, and a new 5-story mixed-use building will be constructed behind the reenergized facade. #palmisanoprojects

I guess talk about no more CBD apartment conversions was a bit premature...

The old Good Shepherd school is being converted to a first floor office and two floors of apartments.

https://neworleanscitybusiness.com/blog/...erd-school-to-become-offices-apartments/

Not to be cynical, but I'm assuming this will be another case of apartments quickly becoming STRs or the building converts to hospitality. I assume it's easier to get permits for a residential conversion and change its use to hotel/hospitality after construction?

no it all depends on what you are doing with the property and tax credits: some projects have to stay residential for awhile and others it could be a clause in the sale etc... im not sure why you are being cynical here.. its just the free market at work ... proeprty owners are going to pursue the highest and best use for their properties... ultimately getting these abandoned buildings back in commerce is the most important thing... Charity will have hundreds of apartments and they will stay apartments... but as someone who lives across the street from a project that was sitting empty until Sonder took it over the change in street life and activity has been incredible and its activating the ground floors near me which is ultimately what i want... CBD living isnt for everyone especially higher end pricepoints.. many of those people prefer the warehouse district or French Quarter or other MId City/ Bywater/Marigny neighborhoods... my main goal is to get buildings in the CBD into commerce, occupied and the ground floors activated... whatever gets us there is fine by me
