Awesome. The area between the capitol and I-35 is so dull and lifeless, hopefully this is the beginning of a transformation for this area.

Another drive by shot from today.

And directly across I35, this is all that's left of the CVS/bingo parlor. It's going to be fun seeing these two go up together.

Agreed. Change in that area would be a good thing.

Does anyone have an update about this project (or the Huston)? Neither one can be seen very well from the main lanes of I-35.

I see them every Wed when I go to Velocity. Both sites are being cleared so I would say construction will start any day now.

A lot of dirt is being moved, so I changed the status to Site Prep.

I can't quite call the Huston site across the highway site prep yet. It still looks like a pause after demo.

This one is exciting. Glad to see it moving forward in a hurry. Trammel Crow Residential doesn't like to linger.

They have been pretty busy the past couple weeks tearing up and hauling away the blacktop parking lot that covered about 2/3 of the lot where the CVS and Bingo parlor used to be.

Project webcams have been going offline recently, and we're down to only the ones for the Downtown Capitol Complex and the North Austin Complex. But you can zoom in on the Alexan site and the Huston site from the 1601 Congress webcam. Not much can be seen at the Alexan site yet across the street from the Sheraton. But you can see the dirt of the Huston site on the left.

Not that it matters a whole lot, but they have changed the name back to Alexan Capital.

I wonder if they meant capital or capitol. Capital would suggest it's their only residential in Austin, which it isn't. I thought it originally was capitol since they'll have such a good view of the capitol.

I was wondering about that too. They could go with Alexan Capital by the Capitol on 11th.

The soil conditions are so different from just a short distance away to the south. That looks like tough going busting through that rocky mess, but at least they won't have to contend with a high water table. What a game changer for this part of town will this be. And when did I start talking like Yoda??

Yeah, I was noticing the rocky soil there also. I have a buddy in the construction business who helped build the new PEC facility in Marble Falls and was complaining about the rocks out there also. It's a pain and adds time to the process.

I've always considered you a Yoda figure on this board, by the way.

The hills that Downtown sits on are in essence the farthest eastern extent of the Hill Country (the foothills of the hills if I may use the term)...therefore are made of limestone.
