Emergency crews were called to an alleyway in the 100 block of 15 Street N.W., in the community of Hillhurst, shortly after midnight Tuesday morning after a man was found suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was transported by ambulance to the Foothills Medical Centre where he died as a result of his injuries.
I wonder what proportion of Calgary's homicides happen in alleyways? I suspect half of them.

Police found the body of 43-year-old Sylina Curley in one of the rooms. The death was deemed suspicious and the Calgary Police Service homicide unit was called in to investigate.
And the people who committed the crime were from the burbs. Seems like the biggest threat to people in the inner city is suburbanites.

You have a valid point. I suppose we should all be thankful for the Beltline in that regard. I’ve always thiughtbov it as kind if blight on the city, but it helps contain the rift raft to one area.

I know Haysboro is quite far south, but if you look at its 50x120 + alley make-up, it is basically inner sprawl. It is far from the edges, to be honest. As I think this through more academically, inner sprawl takes in half of what we usually refer to inner city, and a quarter of what we usually refer to as suburbs. It is that classic 50x120 + alley with 1K building template - the lowest density of them all.

Calgary is no different than Edmonton. Crimes, including violent crimes and murders happen all over the city, from downtown to the exurbs. It is what it is, and like Edmonton, you're probably not that likely to be the victim of crime unless you are living a high risk lifestyle or involved in crime.

Stupid, stupid post. All someone has to do is look up the crime statistics and you'll see that easily Beltline and downtown have by far the highest rate of crime per capita, probably the highest amount of crime straight up (I haven't check the stats).
There's no way that headline is ever getting printed. Also worth noting is that any crime that isn't in the core/Beltline is usually in the older neighborhoods around the core like Chinook Centre, Marlbourgh Mall or Motel Village. Very little ever happens in the newer suburbs.
