I think they died when the lagoon was created, and then beavers cut them down to build their homes most likely.

And yes, TorontoDrew, it's taken from the lagoon boardwalk on the eastern end of Prince's Island.

I think they're all fantastic buildings but I'm a fan of a more post modern look and it's buildings like Canterra (is it still called that? Sorry, haven't been to Calgary in years) and Bankers Hall that I think really give Calgary a great skyline.

I love the Calgary images on this page, as well as the Montreal ones. Both cities have great, unique skylines.

Canterra is now the Devon tower, and yeah, it's one of my favourites too. Bankers Hall are my favourite pomo towers in Calgary.

Brookfield is a very handsome box, and The Bow and Telus are striking. The Eight Avenue Place duo are possibly the ugliest skyscrapers in Canada, imo.

Hmmm, I wonder why you think that? I can't possibly agree. I see them in person almost every day, and I always love them. The glass is amazing and always reflects the colour that the sky is. The ground level along 8th leaves a lot to be desired, but the plaza on 9th and the permeable winter garden is a really nice collective space.

I wouldn't call them the ugliest, they are just not good designs though. The roof lines just look messy and lazy to me.

Still don't see the messy roof line part. The roofs are purposefully jagged edged in order to harken to the snow capped peak of the nearby Rockies.

Also, more pretty pictures...

I think EAP look great, they stand out with their roof line.

I don't find EAP unattractive. The towers don't really stand out as exceptional or striking aside from being different from the towers beside them. Same with Bankers Hall. They're different with all the glass addition from this era. Being twins of different colours also adds to their allure. Architecturally, I find the individual towers incredibly bland compared to other traditionally inspired towers from the era.

Just a personal opinion. The wonky roof shapes don't appeal to me at all. Calgary also has a few tacky Pomo highrises, though they are increasingly disappearing behind new towers. Nothing against the city, as you should know. I'm not a city-booster or a city-slagger.

Eighth Avenue Place may not be architecturally illustrious or intriguing, but I do appreciate the form of the roof as a homage to the Rockies. Their a fair set of towers in the city, just mundane like Bankers Hall. (Though I do like the Bankers Hall twins more, they have a strong sense of order in their design and a good contrast of hue)

No for sure man. I was genuinely curious, just cause I find them to be quite nice. Nothing great or anything.
