Ya you can see those columns wrapped in black in the renders. The building above overhangs the sidewalk area.

As I drove by this morning, it looked like the concrete pump was going on the 300 tower core. The form system was all enclosed. So maybe things are moving again?

Cool, thanks

Ultimately I think it's still good news in the grand scheme, but might be a bit of a downer for some here.

I've chatted with lots of people around here at 360 and Wpg square, and the good news is that Goodlife is coming (although that's not news anymore). That's a big win for the block.

But 330 is only one story. Apparently the original plan was to hunt grocers for the large space in the back, and put 2 floors of goodlife on top of the Main Street side retail... so that would have been 3 floors not 4.

Apparently they got real close to getting a grocer, but grocery expansion has basically shut down across the country, never mind downtown Winnipeg. So goodlife takes the grocery space. The silver lining is that they wanted that space anyway so there's a chance they wouldn't have taken floors 2-3 at the front.

Turns out, classic Trizec Corp, who promised this whole block complete with 2 towers and hotel but took off after 360, that the foundation at 330 was never built to handle more than 1 large floor. Despite previous renderings and all.

If that weren't the case, maybe it would have an additional floor? It would be unlikely though. It's weird to have office/retail above a new build big box.

^ I wouldn't be too surprised if that's how it turns out, it's pretty clear we have a long way to go before downtown Winnipeg can attract a new supermarket. I am a bit surprised, however, that they didn't put a floor above GoodLife on spec, you'd think the marginal cost of adding a floor right at Portage and Main would be justified by the potential returns. But then, I suppose Artis knows what it is doing.

That said, just the single storey GoodLife is making a massive difference to the streetscape. It will cut down on the open void feeling that currently exists along that stretch of Fort and Main Sts.

Atleast it's...girthy! Lol.

Considering the semi-iffy office market, I'm not surprised. Plus the layouts required for an office would probably be off, as they are at the mercy of whatever goodlife needs their space below to look like (HVAC, Plumbing, Elevators/staircases, I dunno). If the foundation could even hold it.

Just looked at their site. Dog run and pet washing station in the building. This is a smart move.

Thanks for the photos!

Great to see how the entire area between the towers will be closed in, ridding us of that hideous, misshapen 40 year old roof.

Looked like a toxic site that had been capped off and encased in concrete to protect those around from what was inside!

Strange that I can see every other image except BuildUpWpg's.

You're sure it's not pornimages.org. I can see them on my phone but not at work.

....no biggie, I just haven't had this before. Work must not like that site.

Lol, considering I post the construction images while I'm at work, I hope I haven't been using pornimages.org!

I think we need to start a GoFundMe page for BuildupWPG in exchange for daily images of this project. It's only been two days since his last post and I'm already getting antsy waiting for the next images.

That last pic was excellent. It's also the best pic of True north square I have seen from a distance.
