My plan is to frame the tiles (w/o the Legos, of course ) on my wall in such a way that I can easily/safely move it to a table for occasional viewing. They sell frames that are designed specifically for the tiles, but the largest one is for a 3x3 configuration, which is already too small for my initial collection.

As such, I'm planning on customizing a frame myself at some point. But for now, I've just put the tiles back in their display cases and stacked them in 3 rows so that they actually fit on my desk w/o taking much space.

Speaking of West Loop, yesterday both 1375 W Fulton (Fulton & Ogden - 14 stories with office and ground floor retail) and 1120 W Jackson (Jackson between Throop & Racine - 10 stories with 166 units + ground floor retail) received building permits for new construction yesterday.

Yeah sorry - I could have sworn I typed that out LOL. Anyway it's great news. I mean 1220 W Jackson won't really be a beast at 10 stories. The building next door is 6 floors and the one across the street from that is 8-9 floors. Right south of that on Van Buren is an 8 story building with 2 7 story buildings on each side of it. I wouldn't call it exactly a beast scale wise for the area. If it was 10 more floors then yeah.

^ That historic loft building on the left will be demo’d, though, which is a major bummer.

When they proposed this project the dumb fuck NIMBYs bitched and moaned about density and parking, and complained that TOD guidelines shouldn’t apply here because the L stop is on the Eisenhower. They lost and it still got approved.

One has to wonder if, had they not been so self-centered and had pushed for that building to be saved, we could’ve kept that building and gotten a taller one on that lot next to it.

The little courtyard condo building across the street was the likely source of NIMBYs. Just look at its design—made for douchebags.

The detailing on that loft building is really nice, and the same can't be said for any of the those new-ish developments near it... Definitely put a damper on the excitement I had for that building.

As I mentioned the other day, construction fencing is up and the little moderne building on the corner is gone at 1375 Ogden. I'm sure we will see rigs any day now. I'll let everyone know pretty much immediately on this one as I drive by a couple times a week.

As a side note, I heard interesting noise today about the Gateway project. A sub I use is doing some sewer work and they are apparently already contracted to do the service for the highrise components of this project. I will ask him for more specifics when I see him in person, but it sounded as if they may be starting those three highrises (one medical office, one hotel, one residential) soon. Now THAT would push the skyline west, having three highrises almost all the way to Western.
