The price of gas and medical premiums have nothing to do with each other. The gas comes from the same refineries.

Gas burned, wear and tear on the car, and time all factor in. Sure, fill up when you're down there for other things, but a trip just for gas is silly financially.

Understanding where you are spending your money and where your tax dollars go is another argument.

Who ever drives down just for gas? I have friends in Bellingham who receive all my US online purchases so I save in both ways.

I drive just for gas, sometimes for package pick up as well. I live in north Surrey. It's worth it sometimes. Last week I went and I paid 2.40 a gallon at the D Street Shell because of a Shell fuel reward promo. The Canadian gas stations can suck it.

I live in Ladner and could probably count on my fingers how many times my parents fill up in Canada per year. It's like a 15 minute drive to Point Roberts, and the border is obviously much better than east of the bay.

Even when I lived on the coast, I don't see how you guys do this.
All the border lineups suck. I'd feel like I would have to proactively leave for the border at a quarter tank and write off my afternoon plans just to make the trip worthwhile but then how the heck do you explain you are crossing into Sumas for example just to fill the tank and come right back?

In my (parents') case with Point Roberts, border lineups are pretty much nonexistent. You can be there and back on your way somewhere else within like 20 minutes. So it's more like, if you happen to have an empty tank, stop by there before you go to wherever else you need to go.

And yes, you can literally just say you're going to get gas.

I get your sentiment and I personally disagree with cross-border "tax evasion," but you don't need to be a dick about it. Cross-border fill-ups might be a slight issue but that missing tax revenue isn't what's leading to our long healthcare waits

It's significant because it leads to less revenue for local businesses. Gas is heavily taxed, but all of the cross border shopping hurts the broader economy.

It's probably in the tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue. Whether you think that will impact health care is up to you. But I often see the same people doing everything they can to evade taxes, while at the same time complaining about government services.
