I think they aren't doing overlay pieces with the different colors, rather than it being a single piece of metal. Again, wait for the final product

Tbh, it doesn't look too bad, even if it's not what was promised. Nonetheless, I do feel as though we're being shortchanged

I'm just wondering why we went with "LRT" and not monorail. I don't believe the latter would have been much more expensive, plus it doesn't need as wide a ROW

Those barriers do seem brutally ugly to stare at while waiting for a train, though. I wish they had made all of them part of the public art component to add to each station's character.

Monorail or heavy rail? Monorails are seldom used in rapid transit. They are mostly (if not fully) elevated and quite expensive. They were popular in the mid-century for expos and theme parks. They are a few modern monorails, but they are mostly in warmer climates.

Heavy rail vs light rail comes down to money. Low-floor light rail means smaller tunnels, tighter curves, steeper grades.

I agree. They did it with Bayview where the barrier itself is the integrated art. And Parliament's art, although we're still have part of those gates, our eyes will be drawn to the art installment.

totally agree... really distracts from the "open" feel... which is minimal at best.

Would have been better if they would have integrated the art as part of the barriers for all side-platform stations, but again, reserving my judgement for the day I get to see it in person.

On the platform divider fence. This does look really tall. Wonder why they went so tall?

Ottawa DOES have a tendency to engineer the stupid out of people (hence the plethora of traffic signage at every intersection).

And for that reason, Ottawa specifically, and Canada in general is the poster child for big fences at rail stations. Seems the rest of the world lets people be stupid.

Well, there is an obvious difference in speeds the trains enter the station at. For Dart and Charlotte, you actually cross the tracks to get to the other platform, so trains enter the station at low speed. Manila and Edmonton are high floor, so scambling across would be difficult. In our case a low fence with a high speed train would be a recipe for disaster

They are to keep the public out of certain spaces or to provide an emergency exit.

They partially reopened the western sidewalk on Holland so I was able to take a picture from both ends! (I don't need much to be happy)
