Not that I recall.
On the National store types, I think there was a Daniadown, a Hallmark cards, and maybe a Lens & Shutter (?).
There was that big kitchen store across from Safeway for years, but that type of store has been wiped out by Homesense.

Anyone know anything about redevelopment at the Plaza 500 across the street:

http://www.arnomatisarchitecture.com/CivicCentre.html

Presumably it would be just the podium space, not the tower.

Isn't the tower going to be rentals?

City Square could always take tips from other dead malls in the region, look at what Denman place has become, always busy !

Or pull a Royal City Centre, get themselves a WAL*MART and Winners.

I joke ofc

3600 & 3680 East Hastings Street

Fraternal Twin Towers Set to Reenergize Vancouver’s Kootenay Loop with Over 200 Rental Homes

3600 & 3680 East Hastings Street
Given how many public engagements meetings Darren and I have attended this year, it should be understandable we were looking forward to December 10th, the last open house of the year. So, you can imagine the look on our faces when we received a last minute email with information about one more pre-application event scheduled for December 11th.

Still, both of us knew we were not going to skip this meeting. For starters, it was for two 14 floor towers offering 214 homes under the Moderate Income Rental Housing Pilot Program (MIRHPPS). There was also something oddly charming in knowing that no future event in Vancouver could ever be held further east than this location at 3680 East Hastings.

Looks alright. I drove through a couple weeks ago. It seems like there is less a concentration of wedding stores that once used to be in that area.

I like what is going up in the Burnaby part of hastings so far.

The wedding store district has kind of been slowly migrating its way into Downtown New West.

I am firmly against anything with the name "van der Zalm" anywhere in the project. Only partially kidding.

Apparently CBRE will be listing Plaza 500 for sale in the new year.

I am fairly certain I heard a rumor that City Square sold earlier this year?

The wedding shop beside the gas station will hopefully disappear within a year and be replaced with a 6 floor rental building with commercial on the bottom

5055 Joyce Street - Open House

Quote:
An Open House in More Ways Than One – East Vancouver Eagerly Awaits New Joyce Street Tower

5055 Joyce Street
As we near the start of a new year, I finally made time to write-up what I experienced at an open house held almost a month ago on November 15th. Back then Hannah was feeling a little under the weather, so she didn’t join me when I went down to the Collingwood Neighbourhood House to see if any major changes had been made to Westbank’s newest proposal next to the Joyce-Collingwood Station.

I was happy to learn that the community’s feedback from the pre-application event earlier this year was generally respected as, though there had been some small changes, there didn’t seem to be any major departures. A bit of the building had been trimmed back, roughly 8 feet off the top, as well as a total area of just under 3 thousand square feet, which has resulted in the loss of one home, and a couple of parking spaces too.

Is it meant to look that black?

And 533 bike spaces? Is that based on reality or a desire to curry favour with the planning department?

Did you forget Vision isn't in power anymore?

It's common to have 1 space per bedroom for bicycles. Which is almost 500 in this development.

Why no commercial on the bottom is my question.

I love the blog commentary. Angry old people by the sounds of it.
