Was the original plan to have Meinhardts in the main residential tower and grocery in Tower C?

"When the panel enquired as to whether a grocery store was planned in the retail level of this building, the applicant revealed that the original plan to host a Meinhardt Fine Foods store in One Burrard Place was still intact, but they hoped to locate a complementary food service in this tower as well."

I think so, but it appears that the location in Tower C is bigger.

There probably is but the limiting factor can often be the trucks to take it away not the speed of getting it out of the pit, so even if a conveyor belt were to whisk it up to the streetside the line up of trucks needed to get it out of there fast enough would be down the block.

I liked the cable bucket that was used at the Exchange - it seemed a bit quicker, and eliminated the boring job of the handoff.

Please don’t make excuses for this primitive form of excavation. A conveyor belt would definitely work

I'm not saying it wouldn't.

It's the traffic that doesn't work.

With the amount of excavation going on in the city right now conveyors putting dirt out would cause the roads to be about 90% dump trucks.

Time is money and if it was possible we'd be excavating faster. No one does it the conventional way for kicks, and it's not like conveyors are expensive.

If this boom slows down and pits remain as deep as they have been in the City you may see something like conveyors but not today.

No wonder this project is one of the slowest this city has seen in recent times.

It's okay they would then tell us how they need trains to take the dirt away.

This machine can take up a larger scoop of dirt at a time.

Ah yes, THAT is what was used at the Exchange. I've seen a cable bucket used elsewhere (Residences at Hotel Georgia perhaps?). They're both pretty cool, and seem way more efficient than bucket-to-bucket.

Those telescopic clam buckets can reach 130 feet down.

Lifting out excavators tomorrow. Unfortunately I'm working at The River District. Won't be able to witness (archive).

Seattle has just as many towers under construction in their downtown and all their pits use conveyor belts to get the dirt out. Having the road 90% dump trucks? Thatndoeant even make sense. You know the conveyor belts can be turned off right? Then turned on when there is a dump truck ready to load. It doesn’t have to be an around the clock operation. The reason they aren’t used up here is 1. Companies are too cheap 2. The operations just aren’t planned well

To utilise the benefit of transporting the dirt faster you would require a significantly higher volume of trucks.

That's just a fact, our tiny one way streets simply cant accommodate a line of 5 or 10 trucks and trailers for each development.

Whats the point of not running a conveyor full stop? Where is your time savings benefit? You might as well stick to the double excavator set up.
