Those last two are remarkable. Winnipeg is a treasure of a city, and it's great to see it improving.

That strip on 1st has always been a cool area, though used to be quite desolate before all the surrounding condos were built. Looks like there's still some good restaurants / bars in the area - an acquaintance of mine was a chef at Ten Foot Henry on 1st right there before moving to Toronto.
First Street SW is still an awesome street, plus half a block of retail/restaurants is about to come online when the podium of Underwood opens. One of the best cocktail bars in the city is on the street, called Proof (out of frame to the right), and one of the best pubs, Leopolds, is just a block up on the corner of 1 and 12. Best part is, there's gonna be a subway station just half a block off the street on 12th once Green Line is open.

This is turning into a nice neighbourhood. We stumbled upon it once while seeking out the Distillery District. The ground-level bars, cafes and shops make it feel rather comfy and intimate in a way you don't expect from new developments.

Some of the architecture isn't the greatest, but they have really put a lot of attention into streetscaping and the types of retail tenants in the area. Nothing kills street life more than, say, a dentists office where the frontage is covered in window film. As the remaining lots are developed it should continue to get better.

For a brand new ground up development it's done well. What it really needs now is some employment uses. There's a great group of old brick warehouses sitting behind those condos that are just begging for someone to come and convert into a modern tech-type commercial space. The provincial government's been sitting on them since they consolidated the land for the Pan am games many years ago. I briefly toured through them and we were looking at buying them, but no dice.

Edit: Might have actually been First Gulf that had them as part of an agreement with the province. Was a couple years ago, can't remember.

That's pretty in the snow. Looks like it's about -5 degrees. I walked across that bridge many times in conditions like this, on my way from U of W to Osborne Village and environs.

It’s the yearly memorial for the victims of the Polytechnique massacre. 14 beams of light for each woman killed.

^ Really illustrates Halifax's impressive density.
