The address listed for the business is 831 Main Street which is the old Keatings Tobacco store.
They were busy pouring a new concrete floor at the former Keatings today, so there is something definitely afoot here......

I will say. Keatings was never set up to be anything else then a smoke shop/convenience store.

I had seen them doing work that looks like plumbing, and gas lines before they where pouring the new concrete floor.

They have been ripping things out of there for 6 months and there is still a massive for lease sign on the window. I'm doubtful and they are likely just doing basic renovations so the space is more attractive to rent out.

Well, all I can say is this.

Here is the actual job listing on the Government of Canada job bank site:

https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/jobsearch/jobposting/28587075?source=searchresults

You can see the mailing address for the job posting is 831 Main Street in Moncton.

If you type this address into Google Maps, this is what it gets you:

https://www.google.ca/maps/place/831+Mai...ae94ad8c3!8m2!3d46.0882707!4d-64.7794958

It's the old Keatings. They are renovating this space. There are job adverts out there for a new restaurant with this mailing address. Seems fairly conclusive to me.......

Bennic looking to expand

Cool, that sounds great! They do have great Ice Cream! I wonder if they'll ever put a kiosk in the Avenir Center like Joji's because I'm sure the city would love to support another local business. I'm sure there's room for both.
Hmm I wonder if there wouldn't be some kind of exclusivity clause at the center like they often do in malls. Only one vendor with the same product offering permitted. If not Gojiis might not like that and Bennic could probably compete well with them. If I hear anything else I will post.

Well, nothing is carved in stone until an official announcement is made, there is a detailed building permit stuck on the window, or if signage is being affixed to the building, but, in this case, I think a reasonable assumption can be made.

I could still be wrong though.........

drove by the old Keatings, and there as a sign in the window that was not a for lease sign so I do think you where right. The unit seems to have been expanded as well.

I talked to my friend who owns Bennic and he said they wanted to move in there, but it was already leased, even though the for lease sign was still up. He was disappointed as he felt it would have been a great location for them to expand too. They are looking to expand, they did look at the Avenir Center but the SMG cut of sales was too high for a company in the expansion process, although they would have liked the exposure they felt that it would be better to get a better foot hold on the market with a store that would operate more hours. He also mentioned that now that Goji is in, they have an exclusivity clause and they wouldn't be able to get a kiosk there.

They have already had a few events there in the past few weeks not sure if it was invite only but I have sent a cab or two there under the Pink Flamingos name. Interesting fact the bar is named after the movie which is a unique experience to say the least

The problem of physician parking at the Moncton Hospital has been (partially) solved.

One of the physician parking lots will be sacrificed when the new Maternal & Newborn Care wing starts construction this summer.

Apparently they are going to create a new physician parking lot on that green space in front of the Ambulatory Care Centre (between the ACC and Connaught Ave). This will have about 75 spaces, and should be complete before they start construction of the new maternity wing.

While this will solve the most immediate concern, I don't think this will provide enough parking when (if) the new Coronary Care Wing starts construction. The cardiac wing would result in the loss of the second physician lot at the hospital (behind the Sheldon Rubin Oncology Clinic).

There are over 200 physicians at the Moncton Hospital. While many physicians are only at the hospital briefly during their morning rounds, and work out of their offices most of the day, there are quite a few physicians who are hospital based (about 40 radiologists, anaesthesiologists and pathologists alone), not including ER physicians, intensivists, surgeons working in the OR and varied on call physicians. In addition, a lot of physicians have their offices in the attached Professional Arts Building and use their hospital parking space during the daytime. I'm pretty sure we will need more than 75 spaces.

While construction of the maternity wing is imminent, I believe that there will be a little delay before the start of the cardiac wing, so there is still time to find other measures to address the problem.

In addition, while Higgs specifically stated that his infrastructure plans included the maternity wing, I don't recall hearing him say anything explicit about the cardiac wing. It could be that the cardiac wing might end up being "delayed". I hope not, but it would be nice to get further clarification on this matter.

Moncton seeks more downtown development as it expands builder incentives
Changes offer rebates to builders of 'city changing projects' valued at more than $10M
Shane Magee · CBC News · Posted: Dec 18, 2018 7:24 AM AT | Last Updated: an hour ago
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/moncton-council-downtown-development-1.4949560

Quote:
Developers of so-called "city changing projects" valued at $10 million or more could receive a rebate over three years in the new zone once the building is complete, according to a presentation to council.
Quote:
Kevin Silliker, Moncton's director of economic development, says the city knows of five projects in the works that could be eligible for the newly expanded program.

"Our objective is to try to bring as many of those projects over the finish line as possible," Silliker said, without discussing specifics of those projects.
Quote:
In the newly added zones, the project's value must exceed $10 million. Once complete and valued for property tax purposes at more than $10 million, the grants are provided for three years. That can be extended to five if the developer also must install new infrastructure such as parks, streets, or sidewalks as part of the project.
Quote:
The city expected to see about $108 million in new development in the downtown by 2023 due to the opening of the downtown arena. So far, Silliker said the total stands around $50 million with several projects in various stages of development that could help reach the target

A map shows the various incentive program boundaries. The original program launched in 2015 only applied in the area shaded in bright yellow. The new zone includes the area bounded in red as well as shaded in dark yellow. (City of Moncton

Personal note - Valmond should be pleased. The new development zone boundary includes his proposed "Harper Street Hotel"

And a little throwaway from Mayor Dawn Arnold's summary of last nights council meeting.

She mentioned a rezoning application for 69-71 Archibald Street (but facing Victoria Street) for a four storey 32 unit apartment building with underground parking.

No renders are available, although I hope it isn't a vinyl sided monstrosity (I'm pretty sure they're banned downtown anyway). In any event, another bit of infill for the core, although I wish more buildings would break that four storey barrier........

So they spent all that money creating that green space, now they plan to pave it over?
Why can't they just break down and build a 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 parking garage on the existing lot that's connected over Macbeath Ave. by a Pedway? That seems to make so much more sense to me.

If I remember correctly, a parking garage has been proposed for that area in the past; however, landowners (NIMBYs) on the adjacent street put up quite a stink over it.

I'd heard that too...but seriously, look at a parking lot, or look at a parking garage, really not a big differce to me.

Those homes would end up being purchased by people working at the hospital very likely anyway.

Further to the above, I have found some documentation regarding this new proposed apartment building for Victoria Street:

site plan

render

The building will be 170 Victoria. The entrance to the building will be off Victoria Street, but the garage entrance will be off Archibald. The design house is Spitfire Design, which is encouraging. They do quality work.
