Back to The Grid proposal. Council has tentatively approved land use pending approval from the airport authority. The airport authority previously didn’t approve it, so I’m not sure what will change their minds. I think this saga is far from over because the CA was inscensed about Council’s decision.

Love that nice blue sky So what's happening there, that house replaced a bigger house or it's getting replaced by a larger house?

Those two houses in the photo are to be replaced by one larger house. At least that's the info that has been passed around. Nobody has seen a design yet, but one thing for sure it's going to be massive.

While I do like the overall character of this house, one thing I actually do not like is that fake balcony creating the illusion of a third floor. There is actually nothing up there I believe - just that railing, which looks fake.

I wonder if there are cool elements inside the house that might be saved? Likely not too much, but you never know.

Careful what you wish for, it looks nice and sunny in the pic, but was probably -10C at the time. I don't know where you are but usually cloudier places are warmer.

Interesting that the Airport Authority was opposed. On what grounds?

Maybe they're worried about people bitching about noise after they move in. All it takes is a few nutcases to cause them grief. The city needs to start releasing the number of complainants along with the number of complaints to put things into perspective. IIRC some people had filed thousands of complaints against the Airport Authority and made up the vast majority of all complaints.

And usually cloudier places are more humid and feel colder.

Within the flight path of airlines using YYC. There are noise regulations.

Technically it's warmer, but extremely dismal, and actually much colder than it looks.

Fantastic news, not because it is a fantastic proposal, but because the utter morons in the local community association were ignored. Remember, this was their opinion of the building:

It's basically putting a large phallic symbol in the middle of a historic community
These idiots need to know the value of their opinions - worthless.

While on the flight path, that location is many kilometers away from the runway. Looks like the regulations here are completely disjoint from many other places. At the end of the day, if there is a pinch more noise on occasion at such locations, that's a choice the purchasers make. Why would the airport care? The odds of a plane coming in low and nipping a building in inglewood is zilch to zero. If coming in that low that far away, building or no building it is headed for a crash.

They also continue to claim it will overshadow the 'historic community'. It won't, it will overshadow Blackfoot trail. If they are too ignorant to know the sun shines from the south, then they don't deserve any time.

Elevation @The Grid = 3,400ft
Elevation @ YYC = 3,536ft
Height of the grid = 28m, 92ft
Elevation @ top of The Grid = 3,492ft

If a plane is low enough to hit The Grid, it's not going to matter.

Oops was looking at the wrong figure, 49m = 160ft. So the top of The Grid is 24ft above YYC. I find it hard to believe that is dangerous.

I’m not a fan of gray damp weather, I find Calgary’s weather is great when it’s sunny, even when it’s cold.
