Avenir Centre joins a distinguished group of nominees for Best New Concert Venue along with The Sylvee (Madison, WI), FiServ Forum (Milwaukee, WI) Metropolitan Opera House (Philadelphia, PA) Elsewhere (Brooklyn, NY).
Avenir Centre sounds like poetry to me compared to the above.

The Tim Horton's kiosk is now open at the Avenir Centre.

The kiosk however is woefully small, and limited in it's product offerings to hot beverages (coffee, tea & hot chocolate) as well as pastries.

I presume it doesn't offer ice caps because of exclusive rights negotiated with Gogi's (for frozen treats), and doesn't offer any other beverages because of conflicts with SMG's own collection of concessions.

It is also the most inexpensive concession by far.

I dont like tim hortons products & mostly avoid them but the kiosk will do well. No matter where Tim Hortons is they always maintain their pricing or close to it. Even in the Bell Centrem

I'm from Toronto and I still call it Skydome, not The Rogers Centre.

As I understand it, that's pretty universal in Toronto. Reminds me of how people in Chicago still tend to say 'Sears Tower' instead of 'Willis Tower'.

and theres certainly a big difference between something that's had a name for 30+ years vs a project that had a temporary name. Most people I talk to call it the Avenir Centre and don't seem to have any issue with the pronunciation. There's a few others that just call it "the new arena' or whatever, but that would be the case no matter what it was called.

You'd think the new name should catch on quickly, but they are generic signs around Moncton saying "Event Centre" this way. I think I got the capitalization right, thus making event centre a proper name.

The city signs saying Events Centre suddenly popped up mere days before the announcement of the name Avenir, even though the city must have known of the new, official, name that was on the cusp of being announced.
I know Avenir isn't paying for city roadesode signs, but if I was them, I'd nevertheless be PISSED.

It's extremely common for road signs in cities with sponsored venue names to just say "Arena" or "Stadium". Really not out of the norm at all.

Must be a provincial thing, cuz here pretty much every big venue (Place Bell, Bell Centre, Stade Saputo, Molson Stadium, Cogeco Amphitheatre, Videotron Centre, etc) have their full name on road signs

I always assumed it was because they won't have to change the sign once a new firm gains the naming rights.

I believe that is a big part of it.
I make a point of always calling it the Avenir Centre when I'm talking to people about it... time and repetition will do the trick.

We've now gone 154 pages talking about many different things concerning the Avenir Centre, except one very important forgotten element.

When are they going to install the red hockey goal light?????

I think pretty much all of the signs in Saint John directing drivers to Harbour Station do call it by name.

In 10 years time, Harbour Station will still be Harbour Station. There are no naming rights.

In 10 years time, the Avenir Centre might be the Majesta Centre, or the Tangerine Centre, or whatever..........

I realize the goal judge is basically obsolete but I wish theyd add the LED red light strips on the middle pane of glass behind the net like they have at Centre Videotron. Its a more modern look but will do the trick in getting a larger reaction on goals.

I wholeheartedly agree. Without a red light going on when a goal is scored, it just seems like something quintessential is missing. It just doesn't feel right.......

Someone asked the question on the Avenir Centers Facebook page and they said the red lights would be installed soon

I'd like to see the red lights on the net, up the posts and across the cross bar, I think that would look really good.
