Midtown’s No2 Opus Place scores city’s thumbs up for commercial component

No2 Opus Place would stand roughly 730 feet, making it the city’s tallest residential tower.

Shouldn't the filing and approval be public record? I can't find this SAP for 98 14th anywhere...

Maybe a few of them will challenge the moderators to ban them, so they don't have to be around when the project actually goes forward.

Not counting on anything with Opus until at least some concrete gets poured.

Report from 5 minutes ago: The sandbox they moved dirt around in is still sitting empty with no equipment or people on site.

I would love to see this kick off as much as anyone else, but it's not a good look. Especially the fake construction they did, which has been halted for months now.

They already stated a couple months ago that construction would commence at the beginning of 2019.

What a slap in the face for the Opus haters out there.

I'm an Opus lover, but I'm still not sold.

Hardly an OPUS hater. I was one of the very first to tour the sales center, and even before that was built met with them at the Berkshire Hathaway offices on Peachtree.

The poor experience I had with their sales rep during a follow up meeting, and an endless stream of delays meant I decided to ice putting anything down, at least until I saw some solid movement on construction.

I wish they would update this rendering they keep showing to reflect the new height... should be about halfway between the height of 1180 (657') and One Atlantic (820').

(Its unclear where they transition.) Those two lanes then become the only lanes of traffic going southbound by MBS. There is one lane going northbound by MBS but only to what looks like a new entry into the underground garage. Its hard to tell whether that lane goes under the retail development and reappears into the back end of the bus lot, or if that is some other outlet for the buses.

The road closest to State Farm arena becomes the major flow of traffic northbound and likely enables you to turn right onto eastbound Andrew Young Int.

Edit. Looking back at the Madness is Coming rendering the road near State Farm is a left turn only so it becomes a circular. Not sure if there is any traffic left on Andrew Young International from Marietta to this area. Are they making that pedestrian only?

Overall, having gone to several events in the area I think the realignment/road diet is a good thing for the area. It will be interesting to see whether they close some of these off during large events or whether the road next to MBS will still be necessary as an outlet for that parking garage. Currently, during large events at MBS they park large equipment across the roads, add temporary jersey barriers, etc... I'd hope that this reworking of the roads is more permanent solution to handle large events.
At these events cars get overtaken by the masses of pedestrians and I noticed during the last Atlanta United game I was at that they already close these lanes / entire roads during major events (which is really all these facilities are used for), so it makes since to make that layout permanent.

Across the street at ALEXAN 880, units don't seem to be aggressively marketed just yet ( per apartments.com )

Studio 1 Bath 7 units 589 SF None of these are available.
1 Bed 1 Bath 133 units 795 SF None of these are available.
2 Beds 2 Baths 76 units 1,143 SF None of these are available.
3 Beds 2 Baths 40 units 1,434 SF None of these are available.

I don't think so. I walked past it last night and Daiquri factory was definitely closed. Speaking of Alexan, the sidewalk on W Peachtree is about ready to open and the lane has been given back to cars (although we will probably loose the one on the opposite side of the street soon.

Speaking of lane closures and such:

1. The positioning of the "Merge Right" sign on Spring St at 10th is completely ludicrous. Causes traffic to back up for several blocks at times.

2. West Peachtree @ 14th now has left turn and right turn only lanes, with three thru-lanes in the center. This is instead of just allowing ppl to do whatever they wanted in the curb lanes. I've voiced support of making more of the lanes on these one-way streets turn-only lanes in the past, which would allow the addition of curb extensions on west peachtree north of 14th if we so choose--now that only three thru-lanes exist, you could make the sidewalk only span 3 instead of 5 lanes (plus a little extra space for bikes). Anyone know if this turn lane project ties into anything larger?

It is very dumb they way they have it. They should have put the sign earlier on spring or just make that a left turn only lane. The problem I could see with that is it might not be allowed as someone could accidentally go strait and run into the temporary sidewalk.

I wouldn't blame the reporter -- the Opus Place website still shows that rendering as though it's the current plan for what's being built.
