Lets see what the formal proposal actually looks like.
Sounds like they are wanting to expand the use of Edmonton Tower to more advertising as well.
The lighting is fine, in my opinion the lighting is great, it might even be cool to have an Oilers score flash...but a bunch of ads I can't really wrap my head around that as a good thing.

Can't help but point out in the pictures for the lights, they are still using a previous render of Tower B. I might be nitpicking but that could be looked at as false advertising or somewhat of a bait and switch. At least place the newest render there instead of the original.

I am a big supporter of the Ice District but that just bothers me.

I am with you there.

I am still keeping my fingers crossed that we see the original design for Tower B come to fruition. One can only hope.

what's interesting is if they're looking for approval to do something or if they've already done what they want and now they're just looking to turn it on. with the edmonton tower i think it was the latter.

it's pretty common for signage permits to be obtained after the building is complete but it should comply with whatever was on the development permit/edc applications/reviews. i don't recall this being on the development permit drawings for the edmonton tower or stantec or marriott...

if this is also "the latter", it doesn't show much respect for the process everyone else is held to.

I don't mind the building lighting. You see it in other major cities like Shanghai or Hong Kong. We could use a little bit of this in this city. Given that it's in the Ice District the location is fine.

I'm sure those in wheelchairs, or those with strollers, will just looooove this. The point for a raised grade level is for what, global warming and rising flood waters?

I'm just going to go out on a limb here... and say that they are working with the existing height of the main floor in the building?

There is a lift from what I recall.

You can see a pushed stroller coming off a ramp on the left side of the image.

I see the sign mention underground parking. Is the raised structure really about reducing the excavation/cribbing costs?

It looks to me as though they're saving the existing structure including the basement parking and building on top. If that's the case the savings are substantial.

You are correct. We are essentially adding on to the existing structure and opening up the 'main floor' so it is more conducive to supporting retail uses (which we have 2 restaurant deals under contract).

Yes, we are constructing a barrier-free ramp at the east side of the north elevation.

It looks great. Here's to improving the planet, one weird looking round window at a time.

I don't know, but I really like the gradients...even though they remind me a cheesy wordart from MS Word circa 98. Ha.
