Vasilios Priskos Bio

Interesting article about Vasilios Priskos, who has sometimes been accused of landbanking. This helps explains where he was coming from. He loved downtown Salt Lake City truly.

See page 62.

Block project including murals

https://issuu.com/downtownslc/docs/d...ine_2018_issuu

See pages 38-39 & 42.

Also, interesting story about the mural on the ImpactHub Building. The mural is part of the 3 Irons project by some artists.
See page 39.

Tower 8 update. Heavy equipment is starting to arrive today at the staging area, NW corner of 2nd East and 1st South.

Minor update but it is development related.

Tower 8 might already have its shoring and excavation permit and can begin excavation. Can anyone confirm this?? This is how it was done for City Creek Center when I worked on it. I was the project architect for the underground portion of block 56?. We submitted multiple permits for the shoring, excavation, and utilities way in advance of the actual permits for the towers and buildings above ground.

I've been having issues with the website as well. It usually loads, but it's very slow.

I like The Exchange more and more with every update. I'm excited to see it go up!

It seems like it's on the cusp of beginning, finally. There's some interior construction going at the Harmons - I talked to someone about it and they said it had something to do with the tower going in, that a small portion of the side of the building is going to be leased to Tower 8 and some back stock rooms have to move. I have no idea if that person was well informed or not, but the timing seems to make sense. No idea if it would be a temporary construction-related lease, or permanent.

Hopefully within a month or 2, we'll see actual excavation begin at the site.

Same for me, I’m on an iPhone XS Max with the latest iOS and it won’t load. Desktop mode doesn’t help and it doesn’t work in safari in either mode. Strange problem to have especially considering that it isn’t a broken mobile version because the desktop version on mobile is also broken.

I appreciate your content and contributions to the forum

Building salt lake still won’t load for me either. It’s like it’s on a really slow dialup connection from the 90’s... and then just fails. iPhone Xs / latest version of iOS 12 / safari.

Air quality in dispute: How Utahns can find collaborative solutions to the air qualit

https://www.deseretnews.com/article/...y-problem.html

Umm, there is a big elephant in the room that no one has acknowledged. It's called SPRAWL!
I think the air pollution problem and water conservation issues are the only things that will get anyone to put a curb on sprawl and leap frog development in northern Utah.

Exchange project timeline

Fyi, I just heard that construction for the Exchange project should begin at the beginning of next year, or basically, within a month or two.

Somewhat insulting Colorado propaganda :

Denver Olympics pitch: Nobody wants 2030 Winter Games, so it may be Colorado’s time

https://www.denverpost.com/2018/12/0...c-games-pitch/

Propaganda in that this headline is a lie to persuade public opinion, and insulting because of the insinuation that Salt Lake City and it's bid is "Nobody." We love you too, Denver.

Another article, this one on Denver's proposal to use Utah venues but get all the credit/benefit?:

"With Colorado’s chances of landing the Olympics fading, the state is proposing a radical change: co-hosting"

https://coloradosun.com/2018/12/05/c...nter-olympics/

Loved this quote from it:

“Behind the scenes, everyone was talking about sharing with Utah. And the consistent refrain in response to that was ‘Why would Utah do that when they have full capabilities to stage the Olympics not only well, but incredibly well?’” Wirth said. “They have taken terrific care of their venues. They established foundations and endowments to not only care for their venues as they mature but keep them utilized by athletes and Utah residents. Give them credit … there is no question in my mind that the Winter Olympics should return to Utah.”

Oh, and in other news, we should find out the USOC's choice for the 2030 winter olympics this Friday
