a lot of the people whining on FB and social didn't even bother to read the articles. that seems to be the standard today--people read a headline and complain without bothering to get the details or read the context.

nobody was being moved out of their home of 40 years or anything like that.

the property on those lots are two old apartment buildings and surface parking lots that have been slated for acquisition for over 20 years. The owners knew it, and in fact, none of them had an issue with BSU buying them out as long as they got a fair market value price.

two of the four properties have already reached an agreement with the school to sell at a fair value. the other two are an old four-unit apartment and a surface parking lot. those two properties could be acquired through eminent domain, which still means the owners would receive compensation. that was as of mid-august; not sure where the current status is.

but Welcome2Boise is right--there's a negative stigma about eminent domain (and in some cases, rightfully so), so people tend to fly off the handle just at the mention of it.

in this particular case, I don't see it as a big deal. that entire corridor is going to be built up as part of the expanded BSU campus eventually, and a ballpark there makes sense given the proximity to other athletic venues on that side of campus.
