At the heritage meeting the other night, the concept was presented. Same height as what was already approved. Only change is slightly extending the exterior walls out to the previous line of the balconies.

The builders are modernizing the architectural design of the project, but not messing with the height/massing/ground floor etc.... This was expected since it's the most straight-forward path to build. Any reduction or increase in height would have required an entirely new set of approvals from city hall.

As someone who owns a condo in Burlington, I would have rather had the extra space in the unit than the massive balcony. It is a 555sqft condo, and the balcony is 138sqft. That's like a 25% increase in my unit size. While I actually do use balconies, I still can't use it in the winter, and a unit that is nearly 700sqft for the same size would have been amazing.

It does exist, but the price point isn't cheap. In both Phases of the RC, we had two bedroom, two bath units with balcony at over 1,100 square feet. The price point was very reasonable as well. We had 1,200 sq ft units starting at the high 300's- low 400's. This was a couple of years ago. It goes to show how drastically the condo market has ramped up over the last couple of years. Those same units would go for high 500's-low 600's in this present market.


The market and the inventory is beginning to look similar to Toronto. Not quite there yet, but gradually getting there...

I remember hearing people buying them up initially and then sitting on them so that they could sell them for a lot more later.. wonder if this is still the case..

Personally I really hate long and thin balconies - you can't put a love seat or anything on them - I'd rather have a more square balcony that juts out more as then you can utilize it better. I barely use mine because I can't find a proper use for it, and mine extends halfway across the apartment.

Yes a construction tradition is to place a Canadian flag at the end of the crane boom when the building reaches it final height. This is usually the total height including mechanical rooms. Sometimes it is the final pour or last piece of steel. They sometime place the flag on the last piece of steel to be lifted to the top and then transfer it to the end of the crane.

Yesterday/this morning on the train out of Hamilton. Visually its just a hair taller than Stelco, and almost as tall as Landmark. Once the mech penthouse is completed this should look like the tallest structure downtown, at least from this one specific angle.

My entire life the view of the skyline coming down the 403 hasn't changed once. Today I came down from the W Mtn and we finally have a new shape to the skyline! This building is as tall as Stelco Tower.
I really hope we see action soon on the Connolly site, which is proposed to be 2 metres taller than this, and the Connaught which will be almost the same height as Century 21.
Heck, even the Rebecca St condos and 2 LIUNA Kresge towers are proposed to be only 6 metres shorter than this building....basically the same height this thing was a couple weeks ago after floor 31 had been poured. Those 5 buildings will all be visible from the 403 and from any angle of our skyline. It'll be great to get a fully altered skyline view after 40-ish years. With any luck on TV City, we'll see even greater changes.....
