The only way I see commuter rail working is if VIA's HFR proposal allows for convenient train times to and from Ottawa for commuters from Smiths Falls. It wouldn't be much, but it could be seen as an indicator of demand and would be a starting point to build on. I can't see the timeline for this being any less than a decade or 2.
