So I checked out the cx lofts Sales Centre in City Centre on Saturday. The sales person told me the project has been canceled due to steel tariffs and new zoning in the area. So now the entire project is back on the drawing board, switching from steel structure to all concrete and looking to go up to about 20 stories in height.

Not dead but complete new redesign and extended timelines. Everyone who purchased has had deposits refunded and they have not decided if the new structure will be condos or rentals.

I guess painting the sand coloured pre-cast the same colour as the glazing gives the illusion that the tower is taller than it actually is

As an aside, I hope that Canada Place, Scotia Place and ManuLife keep their "colourful" glazing and don't switch to silver/gray glazing like many towers in Edmonton have. Don't get me wrong as I like the silver/gray glazing I just think that too many Edmonton towers have the same/similar glazing leading to overkill.

Elevator codes have changed recently, Cabs do not have to home on fire alarm any more. There may be additional code changes for this type of residence as well.

Good location for this type of development. When we were looking for assisted living for the inlaws there were few good central options. The current downtown Rivera residence is much less than ideal

I think it's so much more jarring seeing the absolute beauty our neighbors to the south have just opened up. Not going to get a decisive win on every project but this one is a giant L.

It's not really fair to compare the Calgary Central Library to the Milner as the budget was something like 5x more.
That said, this is a poor outcome on the cladding from what originally was at least an interesting concept for the Milner renewal. If you don't have the budget to do it well, don't do it and come up with another option!

Or delay until you have the $ for the right design. This is an example of another City screwup.
