Is it safe to remove the word "Cancelled" from the title of this thread?

Don't think we're that far out of the woods yet.

The public has no idea who the owner of the property is, we're likely still ways away from a proposal of any sort, etc. Further, we don't know if the name will even remain "The Connolly". I'm assuming once something is proposed you'll see the entire thread changed to suit said changes.

Wait, the new owner isn't Hue? That's what it's said on all the documents on Spergel's site.

Perhaps. I'm just going on the fact that there's been speculation as to who the new owner is on the last couple of pages of the thread. It appeared that no one on here knew.

On page 17 of this thread there is discussion of Hue as the new owner.

I am not a lawyer, but, as far as I understand these documents, Hue Developments and Investments Canada must be the owner, as thats who has been approved by the court.

Of course, Hue could be a front for someone else, this is a real possibility since there is essentially nothing known about Hue.

But as it sits currently, Hue is the owner of the site, of which the sale closed on October 5th.

Hue doesn't have any website or company presence online outside of articles written about this church, so I'd hold off on making any assumptions about the property for a while. Outside of mentions in the court proceedings they don't appear to be a real company.

Yes, but that was speculation. Other potential owners were also speculated.

I'm sure more information will be released in the coming months.

Once there's a new proposal that's unveiled than this project can change from Cancelled to Proposed.

Thanks great to hear, and hopefully the next one comes to fruition. Sad to see a landmark languish and trust new owner can incorporate what is left. Such a great site, just a stone throw away from GO station, but with highly publicized fail of Connelly, my hope is that it is not cursed. Will need a strong builder like Vranich or Effort Trust to get it done.

98 James: Oct 5th, new owners close. Today, they received heritage permit. They apply for site plan this week. Goal of May build. Since election, I've met with them twice and shared contact with DNA. Look for marketing plan early in the new year.

Goal of May build.... That would be outstanding if to be believed. Perhaps if rental.

It wouldn't be shocking, but it would be odd given that the city doesn't have a reputation for quick approvals. Breaking ground in May would make sense if they can get approval soon I suppose.

I think this is going to be condos and not rentals.

Just did some number crunching on height for those hoping for a modernized skyline.

The Stelco Tower is 7 metres higher than the escarpment
The current Vrancor build at George/Caroline will be 11 metres higher than the escarpment
The Connolly at it's original proposed height would be 12 metres higher than the escarpment.

I don't have exact height elevations for the Connaught tower proposed, but it will also be higher than the escarpment, and quite likely by a greater margin than Vrancor and Connolly.

So, despite the upcoming height restriction at city hall, we have potential for a vastly improved skyline over the next couple years with these builds already approved.

And for future builds adhering to the new height limit, the skyline will still be impacted. Currently George St is pouring the 31st floor. Partway up the 31st floor is where they break through the escarpment height 'limit'. So the current height of that build is what will be allowed through much of the core.
As you can see from any angle of the skyline, it is very visible and very impactful on the skyline. So if we can get a bunch of builds that go right up to the allowed height, our skyline will continue to grow and improve.

Phase 3 of the Connaught is going to be 36 storey's. I can't comment on the Connolly (that might not even be the name of the future development), but we're for sure going to have a larger skyline within the next 2-4 years. It's an exciting time for development in Downtown Hamilton.

Only have seen Vrancor and Effort Trust build condos on spec ... locally, so unless it is one of those two, everyone else will do pre-sales first and build later. That would put shovel in ground in 2020 at best. Would think it would be similar to RC3 , with all permits / approvals in place.

RC3 will no doubt begin to soon market their tower and if all goes well , I could see a 2020 ground breaking.

I can say with about 90% certainty (if not a little more) that it's a developer from out of town.

I have a difficult time believing that construction on this would begin in May as per the tweet by the Councilor. They would have to go through the approval process and then sell a % before construction. They could technically begin marketing/selling just after the New Year, but depending on how strong sales are/by the time they get site plan approval- May seems very very early to me.

I guess we'll all learn more in time though.
